Maniac town walk ~ culvert walk (Hatchobori) ~

Hello. I'm Hanes, an active correspondent.
I went on a culvert walk for the first time in May to eliminate the lack of exercise due to continuing working from home.

This time, I walked the site of Hatchobori (Sakuragawa) that remains in the Shintomi-Hatchobori-Irifune-Minato area.
Hatchobori was excavated in the early Edo period, and was a waterway for passing ships from the downstream of the Kyobashi River to the Sumida River.
It was named Hatchobori because its length was Hatcho (approximately 872 meters), and was renamed Sakuragawa in Meiji period and reclaimed in the 1940s.

Information board for "Hatchobori (Sakuragawa) Ruins" in Sakuragawa Park, Chuo Ward

As shown on the information board, Shin-Sakurabashi, Sakurabashi, Nakanohashi, Hatchobori Bridge, and Inari Bridge were built after the reconstruction project after the Great Kanto Earthquake.
This time, by walking along the site of Hatchobori (Sakuragawa), I tried to find the remnants of those bridges that remain to this day.

First of all, go east along Kajibashi Street from near Danshobashi to attack from the west, but no notation including "Shin Sakurabashi" is found.
However, the next "Sakurabashi" did not physically remain, but was adopted as an intersection name sign!

After crossing the pedestrian crossing, look back and shoot

If you go a little south along Heisei-dori from this intersection, you will find Sakurabashi Pump Station, Sakurabashi Southeast Children's Amusement Park, Sakurabashi Nansei Children's Amusement Park and Sakurabashi Nansei Children's Amusement Park, which were beautifully maintained due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the name of Sakurabashi remains unexpectedly.
In addition, there is Sakurabashi No. 2 Pumping Station in Minato.

As an aside, the monument of Sakurabashi Nansei Children's Amusement Park, which seemed to be hidden by plants, has come to be seen well with this maintenance.
Is it related to the war built by Shintomi Town Association in 1942?
The engraved character is "I'm sorry"?
If you have the opportunity, I would like to ask Shintomi Town Association.

By the way, return to the story, go along Kajibashi Street to the intersection of Hatchobori and turn to the right and walk in the direction of Sakuragawa Park. You can see "Nakanohashi Northeast Children's Amusement Park". .
It's a casual corner, but it's impressive that the name of the bridge remains in this way.

In addition, if you are in a hurry, it is likely to be overlooked, but along Shin-ohashi-dori St. (east side), there is a sign with "Nakanohashi" written in Hiragana.

After that, stop by Sakuragawa Park in Chuo Ward and check the location of the river at that time on the information board.
I strolled along the settlement Chuo-dori to find the name of the living Hatchobori Bridge, but I couldn't find anything like that.

However, along the gunpowder street on the east side of bouquet 21, signs of Inari Bridge were installed on both sides of the road.
We will introduce in detail at a later date why the bridge nameplate has kanji and hiragana notation, and the reason why there is something that does not have a turbidity with "XX Hashi" when hiragana notation.

It was a short culvert walk with less than one kilometer, but what I learned is that three of the five bridges built about 100 years ago are still left in the city in Reiwa today.
As was the case at the last Hamacho River edition, it seems that the name of the bridge tends to be adopted for intersection name signs and facilities and buildings managed by the country and capital.
So, can you say the same thing in the culvert that goes to walk next?
Look forward to the next time of this series!
