I feel the Meiji era ・ The Bank of Japan and Jobanbashi

I think everyone is having a very difficult situation due to the influence of COVID-19, but in the meantime, I walked through the Nihonbashi area where cherry blossoms would be blossoming (Friday afternoon, March 20).

This place is located between the Bank of Japan and the Bank of Japan, and its name is "Edo Sakura-dori St.". It is one of the most famous places in Chuo-ku where cherry blossoms bloom. There was a place where the flowers were more open than I expected, and those passing by turned their smartphones toward the flowers. Warm days continue, so you may go to full bloom at once.

The name "Edo Sakura-dori St." is said to be related to Kabuki's "Sukeroku Yuen Edo Sakura", and the inscription on the signpost on the street was written by Danjuro Ichikawa. However, if you actually walk along this street, you can see that historical buildings from the Meiji era, such as the main main building of the Bank of Japan, the main building of the Mitsui main building, and the Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi head office, which are important cultural properties, are concentrated. So it may be said that it is a place where you can feel the historical atmosphere since the Meiji era rather than the Edo era.

The photo shows the Bank of Japan, which was completed in 1896, designed by architect Kingo Tatsuno. If you want to take a picture of the cherry blossoms here, it would be nice to take it together with these historical buildings. If it is in full bloom and you can pass through this street, I hope you can turn your camera to the building as well.

In the construction of Joban Bridge, a main pillar is being installed.

I also took a look at the construction of Joban Bridge, which spans the Nihonbashi River near the Bank of Japan. Construction has progressed much more than when I came at the end of October last year, and a white "medium pillar" stood on the bridge.

Looking at the work, it was in the middle of setting up a main pillar. It's a white guy floating in the air. I hear it's marble.

The main pillar is a pillar-like structure near the entrance of the bridge when trying to cross the bridge, and the name of the bridge is often written. For ordinary bridges, the total number of main pillars is four, but in this case of Joban Bridge, two sets are one set, so it is characterized by a total of eight. In addition, its shape is octagonal, and between one set of main pillars is tied by a "sleeve railing".

This sleeve railing is also made of stone, and according to the information searched from the net, it seems that this time it was repaired on Shodoshima floating in Setouchi. It seems that it will be installed from now on, but the completed figure can be imagined more gorgeous than expected, and it has been quite fun.

This stone Joban Bridge was built in Meiji 10 (1877). Nihonbashi, which has become an important cultural property, was built in 1911 (Meiji 44), so it is an exceptionally old bridge. Speaking of 1877, it was historically the year of the Southwest War, and in Chuo-ku, the year when that Ginza brick street was completed. The only thing that remains until now is a miracle.

With the exception of Nihonbashi, I feel that the best place to feel Meiji period in Chuo-ku is where the Bank of Japan and Jobanbashi are located.

In the midst of COVID-19's self-restraint mood, everyone has devised various ideas, for example, at the Sumida River Terrace and the Hamarikyu Garden, I feel that Japanese families are enjoying more than usual.

The cherry blossoms at Edo Sakura-dori St. in the Nihonbashi area are also blooming like the usual year, so if you are walking along this street, please feel the atmosphere of Meiji period with the cherry blossoms.
