① Chuo-ku seen from the boat--a lot of new discoveries! Nihonbashi
It was a stretched waterway that supported the life of Edo. Even now, there are more than 30 bridges in Chuo-ku. In 2011, a dock was built at the foot of Nihonbashi, the starting point of Japan's road, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the bridge. This time, we asked Mr. Sato, who operates "Funyu Bimizuha" from there, for coverage, and despite the impact of COVID-19, we boarded during regular maintenance operations (operation resumed in June). I will introduce it on the correspondent blog in multiple sessions.
The start is from Nihonbashi, which is made of double stone.
The kirin in the center of the bridge and the lion statue in the four corners are known. I didn't know there was a lion under the Kirin until I got on the boat.
And looking up from the ship passing through Nihonbashi ...
A part of the bridge is uneven and burnt. This is a trace of a lit ship flowing during the Great Kanto Earthquake, hitting a bridge and continuing to burn it. In order to pass on the Great East Japan Earthquake, it was left as it was during the reconstruction work on the 100th anniversary of the bridge.
Next, go up the Nihonbashi River to Joban Bridge (formerly Tokiwa Bridge).
