Speaking of beauty paintings, in Chuo-ku, Yumeji Takehisa and Nishiki-e from the Edo period come to mind.

"I" remember that during the whole museum last year, the "Tsukiji Akashicho" by Kiyokata Kaburagi was specially released at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.

By the way, in a world where modern diversity is respected, how about the lack of a genre called "handsome painting"?

Yeah, I don't want to see it separately, but the beauty painting category has long been fixed gender, the painter was a man, and the subject was always a woman.

Why can't a beautiful man be a motif for painting?

Even in the flow of modern Japanese painting, looking at beauty paintings is a man's point of view, and basically everyone is menquie.

It seems that there is a similar genre in West, but according to Wikipedia, the name "Beauty Painting" itself is the birthplace of Japan.

In the case of Western paintings, neat women's statues and pretty girls are the mainstream, and the concept of beautiful women's paintings, such as prostitutes and Oirans, that create a unique delusion of men, is unique to Japan.

An old-fashioned Japanese female image

For example, Shoen Uemura and others may have been painters who painted beauty paintings from a female perspective for the first time.

Regardless of the gender of the painter or viewer, I feel that there is a somewhat customary virtue that is desirable for Japanese women, which can be said to be somewhat customary, in Japanese beauty paintings.

I think that the simplicity that is not "filled" is attractive because it feels somewhat sad.

Women who relax quickly are better than women who attack with a spirited makeup (individual opinion)

I'm just a menquie, and I can be honest either way.…(>_<)

Beauty in the gap between art and culture

A beautiful woman in the gap between art and culture

That's why I had a close contact with the "Beauty Painting Borderless 2020" exhibition currently being held in Nihonbashi (*until July 12).

[Miurajiro Gallery, 4th floor, Ishikura Building, 2-5, Nihonbashi Daidenmacho]

Entering Chuo-ku across the ward border is the first time in two months, so I feel better.♪

This is a pop beauty exhibition in contemporary art.

There are many women among the artists, and I feel the naming sense of "borderless" whether it is an attempt to draw modern girls in the style of beauty painting.

I felt the gray zone of art and subculture in this "Borderless" meta message.

(The book of the same title is also on sale at the venue, but it is not a catalog of the exhibited works.)

This kind of thing seems to be more attractive if it is held around Shibuya or Roppongi, but it is easy to do it in Nihonbashi.

When you look at it from a man's point of view, there are things that become uneven (it is an individual's opinion), but the content is generally healthy and fashionable.

In a good sense, eye recuperation, or this kind of thing is healing....

However, rather than paintings and paintings, it is an ultra-precision CG or realistic expression, and is different from what is reminiscent of ancient Japanese "beautiful paintings".

Well, rather than appreciating art, it was the impression that I saw Instagram with a cat. (Impressions by individuals)

What was interesting was Brager? I thought my eyes were nailed, but in fact there was a work like a mask as a canvas, and is "with Corona" a timely? I don't know if there is any problem with this concept, but I feel like I've seen the border line of art and subculture here too.

If there was no corona riot, it may have been a great success, but the first day I visited was deserted, and I was able to get closer to the work.
