The ghost story of Chuo-ku
otter of Tsukiji, feared by a geiko
Hello. The active activity is Hanes, who has been resting for a while.
While I was in a hurry, I realized that autumn had deepened.
Speaking of autumn, there are various autumns such as autumn of appetite, autumn of sports, autumn of reading, autumn of art, etc. What kind of autumn do you spend?
Unlike the usual year, I enjoy the "autumn of reading" a little adult.
In the process of collecting books, I heard that this year was the 170th anniversary of Koizumi Yakumo's birth.
If you say his famous work, "Kaidan."
That's why I checked if there were any suspicious stories in Chuo-ku that I haven't introduced so far!
I found "Tsukiji's otter" in Kotaro Tanaka's "Japan Kaidan Daizen Third Bird and Beast Museum" (Kokusho Publication, 1995).
There were many otters in the canal around Tsukiji, and it was said that monsters were transmitted.
"I can't believe that there was otter around Tsukiji!"
This time, I will briefly read the story and deliver it along with the actual scenery.
Immediately, at the beginning, there will be a place where "a mysterious triangular bridge was built" at the "triangular water area where there was a former Aibiki bridge".
If you are familiar with Chuo-ku, you may already notice!
The bridge is Miyoshi Bridge, which currently spans in front of Chuo-ku government office.
At that time, the story of otter by Tsukiji's mischief caused the geishas coming near the bridge.
I knew whether the light of the communal lamp on the other side of the bridge was shining brightly, or that it was the night when otter came out by the flickering.
In the evening when the light flickered, feared otter's mischief, passed in front of the Kabukiza Theater.
It seems that he went back after crossing the Saijo Bridge.
One night, a certain geisha, who was called to wait for Tsukiji, walked home alone because the pick-up car did not come, and the river disappeared at the Meijo Bridge and became a field of grass. That's it.
He knew that it was otter's mischief to deceive others so she made a wise judgment and got nothing.
(What kind of judgment was made is fun after picking up the work!)
(There is no river at that time, instead a photo of the Sumida River.)
From today's Miyoshi Bridge, Kabukiza Theater, and Saijo Bridge, you can't imagine this strange event.
However, it would be interesting to think about what kind of place Chuo-ku was hundreds of years ago by expanding my imagination from the ghost stories and ideas at that time.
Aside
A while ago, the exterior of the Shin-Kyobashi Tax Office and the Tokyo Metropolitan Tax Office, which had been under construction for a long time, can now be seen.
It is a very fine building close to Shintomicho Station and Chuo-ku government office.
Shintomiza may be a place that was familiar to the geikos who appeared in this mysterious story.♪
If you are near you, why not try to touch the remnants of good old culture on the street corner?
Please be assured that otter will not come out.
