A must-see for English fans!
The world's first Rodda's shop opens @ Ginza Mitsukoshi
Hello. I'm Hanes, an active correspondent.
On August 21st, a world-famous British dairy producer, Crotd Cream's signboard product Rodda's shop opened in Ginza Mitsukoshi (2nd basement floor)!
This cream, which began to be made in 1890 at a farmhouse in the center of the Conwall, now has more opportunities to see in Japanese tearooms and the U.K. Exhibition.
This time, based on interviews and interviews conducted with the cooperation of Mitsukoshi PR staff and Rodda's staff, we will introduce the shops that have just opened from the perspective of UK lovers.
What is the reason why Ginza was chosen?
Rodda's crotted cream has a reputation for U.K., which has many opportunities to eat scones.
It seems that you have already set up a shop in U.K., but in fact, this shop, which opened here in Ginza Mitsukoshi, is the world's first store.
So why did you decide to open a store in Ginza, Japan, not in U.K., which boasts a strong popularity?
The reason is that "in Ginza, where there are many inbound customers, to raise awareness in Asia"!
Rodda's is widely known and popular in Western Europe and the Middle East, but not so much in Asia.
When considering such sales promotion in Asia, it is said that it was decided to open a store in Ginza, which has many tourists visiting Japan from Asian countries.
Product introduction: What are the 20 kinds of sweets?
In the press release I read before the opening, it was introduced that this shop has 20 kinds of sweets.
This time, I taught you the points of each sweets, including the recommended sweets.
■Croted cream scones
Of course, croted cream scones that cannot be overlooked.
Chrodized cream and yogurt are kneaded into the dough and carefully made with a hand-washed, resulting in a fragrant and milky taste that is more moist than fluffy.
In addition, we are particular about the materials we use.
The flour is blended mainly from France with emphasis on sweetness and aroma, while the butter is made from 100% glass fed.
Four kinds of such scones are sold, two of which change to a different taste every month.
At the time of opening, there is a lineup of plain, art Gray & lemon, double raisins, and maple nuts.
As a writer who loves English and scones, I want to go peek every month.
■Short Bread, Oz Clan Bulls
And the only eye-catching is this short-bread and Oz Clan Bulls.
Shortbreds have become widely established as British souvenirs, but U.K.'s taste is rarer than single malt whiskey and butterscotch.
Personally, I was thrilled to be able to buy Auts Clan Bulls (Auts Barley Biscuit) with the taste of vanuffy (banana + Tophi), which I loved and often ate while studying abroad.
Because it is the sweetness unique to U.K., it goes well with coffee, and it is recommended for those who like banana bread.
■Short bread with crotted cream
In addition, check out the short bred with Rodda's Crotted Cream!
It is also attractive that it is contained in fashionable cans even if you decorate it as an interior after eating.
Since August 23, fadges have also joined us.♪
I don't think there are many shops that sell fudges in Japan, so I would like you to try this as well.
■Jam, spread
It is a jam that must not be forgotten when it comes to crotted cream and scones.
Here you can buy Mrs Darlington's extra strawberry jam, lemon card, thick orange and orange marmalade, which won the first place in the "best preservative maker" selected by food professionals for the second consecutive year.
Among them, the Legendary Lemon Curd, which uses 100% butter, won one star at the Great Taste Award 2018 in the UK.
Lemon card, which has gradually become available in Japan in the last five years, is it easy to understand when expressed as lemon butter cream?
With a traditional British spread, your hands will not stop with the rich taste different from jam.
Occasionally, how about an elegant tea time with crotted cream, jam, or lemon card that is particular about British products?
As shown in the photo below, these can be packed in boxes in combination with your favorite products, so it is perfect for gifts for those who took care of you and souvenirs in Ginza!
I would like to use it as a souvenir for a British teacher in the near future.
■Bread, cake, pie, etc.
We also offer banana bread bread, lemon bread, cheesecake, apple pie, and sweets assortment (sweet potatoes, chocolate cakes, cheesecakes), which are just right for tea time with multiple people.
I purchased banana bread breads and divided them into those who are taking care of them at work.♪
It was lighter and fluffy than butter-only banana bread, but it was commented that fresh cream was moister than the main banana bread, and it was good and delicious.
It was a worrisome banana feeling, but not only the aroma but also the presence of the banana was firmly felt, and it was a highly satisfying taste.
If you eat it with croted cream, it will make it lighter, so please try it.♪
It's time to feel autumn today....Now I'm very worried about sweet potatoes with crotted cream in the sweets assortment.
What are the recommended products that you want to try once?
This shop has a wide variety of sweets, but we were told you about recommended products that you would like to try once.
It's crotted cream, an undoubtedly signboard product!
Before the opening, "You can buy crotted cream even if you don't line up at the" U.K. Exhibition "(held at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store and Isetan Shinjuku Store)! "
In Japan, where crotted cream is not yet familiar, it has often been described as "like fresh cream" or "like butter", but it is very different from both.
It is richer than fresh cream, but it does not leave oily in your mouth like butter, and its mouthfeel is silky and melts quickly....It is characterized by such a flavor without habit.
The secret of such flavor was in the "crust" that can be done in the manufacturing process!
By slowly steaming cream made from rich raw milk in a low temperature oven, a yellow film is formed on the surface of the cream.
This is called "crust" and is said to play the role of a drop lid that keeps the flavor of the cream and silky texture.
But what I'm worried about when I hear about cream is calories.
The calorie of salt-free butter (approximately 28g) is about 190 to 200 kcal (some differences depending on the manufacturer), while the calorie of crotted cream (28g) is 167 kcal.
Croted cream is also recommended for those who want to enjoy tea time while keeping their calories low.♪
Also、Crotted cream made by Rodda's has been approved as a Cornish Croted Cream for the name of origin like champagne and Parmesan cheese!
It is a cream representing a conwall that is definitely worth attention to for gourmets.
As we have introduced so far, croted cream is more versatile than I thought, such as putting it on scones and banana breads, and also useful in making sweets, beef stroganoffs, and mushroom dishes.

In addition, what I just see as a British lover is that croted cream first or jam first.
As you may know, the first one depends on the region.
In Devon, crotted cream is the first (Devon style), whereas in Rodda's base, jam is the first (conwall type).
In the latter case, croted cream gets the image like the first, but since it melts when croted cream is applied to the heated scones, it will be attached later as shown in the photo above.
As an aside, in conjunction with the discussion of whether this crotted cream is first or jam first, there has been many discussions about whether tea is first or milk is first when brewing milk tea.
I've heard that milk doesn't have to be mixed with a spoon if it's the first, so washing is reduced.
At first glance, these arguments, which seem unfinished, seem to be converging by checking which one is adopted in the British royal family.
I will omit the details of this story, but when looking at images and photos of the British royal family eating scones in the future, why not pay attention to the cream first or jam first?
Even if you take a single crotted cream, it is also a scene where the cultural situation of the UK is clearly reflected, and I think that interest in U.K. will deepen.
What is the uniform of a clerk different from the other?
In addition to a number of attractive products, what I was worried about by British-loving writers was the uniform of shop clerks with cute cool hats and tartans.
Do you have any particular commitments here?
According to the shop, the one wearing is a cancan hat.
At U.K., it was originally a butcher's hat, but now it is adopted as a uniform in that high-end department store Harrods's.
And the skirt is designed with the motif of a conwall tartan.
Uniforms are also condensed in English, and this is one of the points you should definitely pay attention to when you visit the shop.
