Rental view of Chuo-ku

"Shakkei" is one of the landscaping techniques in Japanese and Chinese gardens, where you can borrow scenery. In other words, it is to incorporate the outside scenery as the background of the garden to form a dynamic landscape.

I looked at Chuo-ku as a garden and looked for the borrowed scenery.

The first thing that comes to mind is the Tokyo Tower and the Tokyo Sky Tree.…。

Tokyo Tower

The view of Tokyo Tower Chuo-ku

First, one of the symbols of Tokyo, Tokyo Tower (official name is "Nippon Denwa Tower"). Completed on December 23, 1958, 333 meters high. I'm registered Tangible Cultural Property. The design was designed by Mr. Tanaka Naito, just like Tsutenkaku, a registered Tangible Cultural Property in the country.

The Tokyo Tower can be enjoyed not only by climbing and viewing, but also by viewing from a distance. Especially at night, the colorful lights are stunning (the light-up in the photo is "Infinity Diamond Ver" designed by world-renowned lighting designer Mikiko Ishii).

By the way, the first monster that destroyed Tokyo Tower was Mothra ("Mothra" was released on July 30, 1961). The first monster that hit Tokyo was Godzilla ("Godzilla" was released on November 3, 1954), but before the construction of Tokyo Tower (June 29, 1957).

Tokyo Skytree

Next, the Tokyo Sky Tree, completed on February 29, 2012, is 634 meters high. Construction started on July 14, 2008, and was completed over three and a half years. The exterior is blueish white, and it is the original color "Sky Tree White" based on the lightest color of Japanese traditional indigo dyeing "Aijiro".

The lighting design was renewed on February 27, 2020, and is now based on three types of "Iki (which features light blue light with the water of the Sumida River)", "Masa (the theme color of Edo purple)", and "Nobori (the color of Tachibana color, which has been regarded as an auspicious color)", are based on the concept of "Sumida set piece firework" for a limited time.

Rainbow Bridge

Rainbow Bridge is a nickname determined by the general public, and the official name is "Tokyo Port Communication Bridge". Construction started in 1987, completed in 1993, and opened on August 26 of the same year.

While it is necessary to secure the width of the route and the height of the bridge girder to cross the Tokyo Port First Route, there is a limit to the height of the main tower due to Haneda Airport nearby, and as a result of various studies, It seems that the shape of a suspension bridge was adopted.

The light-up of the Rainbow Bridge is also a work by Mikiko Ishii mentioned above. It is new to remember that the Tokyo Alert was launched on June 2, 2020, and it was lit up in red until the Tokyo Alert was released on June 11.

Shiodome's skyscrapers

Hamarikyu Gardens, the only tide-filled Chisen-kaiyu garden in Tokyo. The adjacent Shiodome skyscrapers (13 buildings) were built on the site of the former Shiodome Station, which was abolished in 1986 (redevelopment from 1995).

By the way, the Dentsu headquarters building on the right side of the photo was designed by French architect Jean Nouvelle.

Mount Fuji

※Photographed from St. Luke Garden (January 6, 2020)

The closing of this blog post is Mount Fuji. Mount Fuji, which can be seen far away from the streets of Edo, was painted in numerous ukiyo-e paintings. Mount Fuji would have been much closer and bigger to the people of Edo than it is now. The landscape and weather conditions have changed, and it has become difficult to see Mount Fuji with the same gaze and frequency as the people of Edo, but there is a unique Fujimi spot (for example, St. Luke Garden) that was not found in the Edo period. Also, looking at the ukiyo-e paintings of Katsushika Hokusai and Hiroshige Utagawa, it would be a great pleasure to compare Fujimi in Edo with Fujimi in Tokyo.
