Shinto ritual of Chrysanthemum

 Shinto ritual of Chrysanthemum

September 9 is one of the five festivals, the festival of Shigeyo (chestnuts and chrysanthemums). At Tsukiji Nami Inari Shrine, a festival is held, and the custom of the Imperial Palace during the Heian period, "Shiyo no Setsuku," has been learned and reproduced at that time.

"Syuyu-no-yu" put the fruit of the shushushuyu in a scarlet bag in a scarlet bag in a amulet, which is customary to hang on the pillars of the palace and replace it with a medicinal ball at the end of the day. The white chrysanthemum is covered with yellow cotton, the yellow chrysanthemum is covered with red cotton, the red chrysanthemum is covered with white cotton, and the next morning, the body is wiped with cotton containing morning dew and wishes for sound health. We have also handed down to Hinamatsuri in spring, such as "later chick decorations" to decorate Hina doll in autumn six months later. In addition, in line with the ginkgo of the sacred tree, which has been said to have a medicinal effect of sound health since ancient times, a prayer for longevity and health "Mikamigi Weeping Ginkgo Gomori" has been awarded only on the day. In the precincts, worshipers are served "chrysanthemum sake", in which chrysanthemum petals are immersed in sake. It is thought that the aroma of chrysanthemums and its noble elegance will exterminate evil and extend the life of the chrysanthemum, and drinking morning dew accumulated in the chrysanthemum early in the morning is also good for longevity.
