A memorable town walk for tourists visiting Japan-Daimyo mansion, Armor Edition-
Hello. I'm Hanes, an active correspondent.
Recently, I have more and more opportunities to talk to the West, and I have come to think about what is a town walk that is easy to impress for them.
So this time, as the title suggests, I tried walking around my own town focusing on "daimyo".♪
Daimyo residence
If you are a Japanese, it may be relatively easy to imagine that there were many daimyo residences in Chuo Ward during the Edo period.
According to places that seem to be relatively known due to the information boards and location, the current location of the Chuo-ku government office used to be the Tsukiji residence of the Tosa Domain.
As you can see at a glance at the Edo Kiri-ezu, this area was an area where daimyo mansions were densely packed in count.
You can also see the round foundation stone, which was used as the foundation of the Date clan Kamiyashiki Palace in Sendai Domain (Miyagi Prefecture) and the flat-processed foundation stone, which was used as the foundation of the pillars.
Unfortunately, there are few places to remember the whole mansion now, but a cut-out drawing that shows at a glance the density and scale of the mansion at that time is unexpectedly useful when walking around the town.
There is something equivalent to a family crest in West, so by showing the family crest drawn on the map, you can know how Chuo-ku was an important place in the Edo period.
However, I don't think there are many overseas people who know even the daimyo in various places.
In addition, it is difficult to show the Edogiri picture and walk around the town, imagine something that is not here right now, and it is not very impressive.
So, I would like to add some more memorable elements.♪
Comparison of Armor
It's a bit back from the Edo period, but it's a daimyo or samurai that you should not forget!
Some people from overseas want to actually wear armor.
It will be a sale at the inbound workshop I participated in before, but it seems that there is a lot of popular armor in West.
There are countless different armor in Japan, some of which have impactful armor that you will never forget once you see it.
Among them, this time, I picked up four famous places ^^
That is the armor of Kanetsugu Naoe, Masamune Date, Naomasa Ii, and Ieyasu Tokugawa.
(The image is copyright-free.)
If I choose the armor I would like to wear in this, I think I will choose Naomasa Ii's red preparation.
One of the reasons is that Taiga drama series likes "Onna castle owner Naotora", but it has a gorgeous image in armor and a strong image.♪
A friend who is a hospitality warlord in a local city also had the same choice.
On the other hand, when I asked the same question to a friend living in Tokyo, he replied, "Of course, Kanetsugu Naoe, who has a helmet with 'love' ^^^'" (laughs).
So, which armor is popular for the West?
The answer was not Naomasa Ii, Kanetsugu Naoe, or Ieyasu Tokugawa, a famous set with Edo shogunate (era), but the armor of Masamune Date!
At first glance, it's the simplest armor, but why is it popular?
The reason for this is that the armor is said to have become a model of Darth Bader, which appears in the Star Wars series.
As expected, it's a point of view unique to the West.
I realized again that the subject of preference is different between the Japanese and Western perspectives.
Chuo-ku is not the home of Date clan, but as mentioned above, there was the site of the Kamiyashiki Goten, and there were many other Daimyo residences nationwide.
When you stop by one of the ruins, if you expand the story and introduce these armor, the Westerners can understand Japanese culture together with the familiar culture, and it should be easy to remember!
In the future, I would like to continue collecting information so that I can interact with tourists visiting Japan, touch their koto line, and provide memorable tips for walking around the town.
