Fireworks at Sumida

More, GoTo, Sumida River

In November, the Sumida River has become cold at once. This year is another two months. Perhaps because of the influence of COVID-19, this year's passage of time is particularly early. The world is still uncomfortable, but how are you going?

The Sumida River continues to flow with water as before. Although the atmosphere is different from the past, we are regaining a boom, partly due to measures such as Goto Travel and Tokyo.

When declaration of a state of emergency came out in April and May, a phenomenon in the Sumida River appeared on the river surface. The waves disappeared due to the absence of navigating sightseeing boats and houseboats. At night, the surface of the water sometimes looks like a mirror.

When the sun set, I was able to see the unusual scenery of the Sumida River without waves. Due to the circumstances of the world, I could not leave it in the photo, but it was beautiful.

When I was looking at the water surface of the Sumida River, I remembered something. This is a story at a lecture by Makoto Takeuchi, the former director of the Edo Tokyo Museum, who died the other day.

In the Pacific War, the city of Tokyo was devastated, but it seems that human activities have been reduced, factories have been lost, and water quality has been restored to enough water to swim only a short time after the war. It was an ironic phenomenon that thanks to Pacific War, but when Takeuchi was a child, he was swimming and playing in the Sumida River. I can't believe it now, but remembering the story, I felt that the situation of the world was reflected in the water of the Sumida River.

It is such a Sumida River, but the same waves as before have returned to the river surface. The people who enjoy the sightseeing boat return as before, and in the corona whirlpool, they seem to be enjoying the charm of the Sumida River. When I look at such a landscape, I feel very pleased.

During this COVID-19 period, the Sumida River did not change anything. Speaking of a major change in the past, is the number of lit-up bridges increased or bridges with different light-up colors appeared?

From now on, the days will be shorter, so it's cold, but the Sumida River at dusk and at night may be fun.

I went around several bridges of the Sumida River.

There is also a bridge like Shin-ohashi Bridge where the light-up has not changed until now, but there is also a bridge like Shin-ohashi Bridge.

For example, Tsukiji Ohashi, which spans the lowest stream, has been newly added to light-up. It shines blue, but what is characteristic is that once an hour, it changes from blue to white for a few minutes at regular time. If you could see the white Tsukiji Ohashi, you can say that you are very lucky.

I came to Eitai Bridge. The place where I took the picture is a rather classic shooting spot. However, the new light-up has different ways of shining light and the type and color of light, so a new shooting spot should be created. Finding such a place may be one of the pleasures, but I find it the most difficult for me to take pictures of this Eitai Bridge right now. I would like to continue shooting in the future, but please try to find a new shooting spot.

The last is Kiyosu Bridge. This time, it has been changed to a pure white light-up. This bridge feels like a "Snow Queen" as I wrote in the previous article, and when you approach it, it will be covered by pure white light, but it is just right for me to worship it a little further than that. It's good to look at the Sumida River Ohashi with the Sky Tree, but on the other side, against the backdrop of the condominiums in Tsukuda, this new light-up curve shines, so I joined one of my favorite scenes. The place you can see is near the Sumida River Terrace and Basho-an on the Koto-ku side.

In addition, the Tsukuda-ohashi Bridge is newly lit up, creating a new landscape that moves me. In this way, the Sumida River feels ready for the Olympics next year, but unfortunately, I think the world with a sense of discomfort will continue a little more.

However, the Sumida River continues to flow like a time passing by without being involved. As before, it will warmly welcome those who have come. If you come to Tokyo, I hope you will visit the Sumida River and find new charms.
