Architecture in Chuo-ku (2): Okuno Building
The Okuno Building (1-9-8 Ginza, Chuo-ku) is a building on the 7th floor above ground and 1st floor below the ground, facing the street two-way east from Ginza 1-chome, Chuo-dori. A new building (right) built in 1932 (left photo) followed by a new building (right) built in 1932, between which two walls are lined up.
It was made of reinforced concrete, scratch tiles on the outer wall, and at that time, it was a luxury apartment called "Ginza Apartment" with a view of the stream of Horikawa and a row of willow trees on the front.
Designed by Ryoichi Kawamoto, an architect known for his Junkai apartment.
Manual elevator of the bellow door
At the time of completion, the first elevator for a private residence is still in operation.
It is a manual type of double door (the inside is a bellow door), and the number of floors is an analog needle point type type (design different from floor to floor).
Staircases from the entrance hall to the second floor
The wooden main pillars and handrails on the left and the walls around the stairs on the right are scratch tiles, leaving a solid atmosphere with age.
A hallway that tells history
The hallway on the second floor. The middle part is worn out and pit like a ruin.
It is a trace of the history that many people have walked for nearly 90 years.
A building full of art
The wall on the right side of the corridor is filled with information on solo exhibitions.
Currently, more than 20 galleries and antique shops are tenants.

It features a large round window beside the front entrance on the first floor. The inside is an antique shop.
