Architecture in Chuo-ku: Nihonbashi Nomura Building
-Even in redevelopment, the old building is planned to be preserved.

Nihonbashi Nomura Building (Nihonbashi 1-9) is a long building that stretches east and west along the Nihonbashi River along the Nihonbashi River, along with the extension of the main building and annex building.

The old building (in front of the center of the photo) was completed in 1930 (1930) under the design of Takeo Yasui, made of steel-framed reinforced concrete, seven floors above ground and two floors below ground.

It is a classic three-layer building consisting of the appearance of the base, middle, and upper floors. The first floor base is granite, the second to sixth floors is dark brown tiles, and the second to sixth floors is set back. The upper part is bright white mortar walls.    It has been popular as a famous architecture that makes up the landscape around Nihonbashi.

The Nihonbashi Nomura Building is part of the Nihonbashi 1-chome Middle Area Redevelopment Project, which has been underway since November 2020, but according to the plan, the main building and annex are dismantled, while the old building is subject to preservation (outer walls, etc.).

The left side of the photo is the old building, followed by the main building (extended in 1959), which extends from the center of the photo to the right (extended in 1981), and at the right end there is an annex with a height of 9 floors above ground (extended in 1981).

The length of the building is about 50m in the old building, about 70m in the main building, and about 30m in the annex, and about 150m in total.

As mentioned above, the main building and annex are scheduled to be demolished due to the redevelopment project, and it will be only a while to see the current long building.
