"Ginza Willow" Growth Diary ~ Spring 2021 ~

Hello. The active activity is Hanes on holidays.
Since April, flowers have bloomed, trees have sprouted, and it has become more and more springy.
The ward tree "Yanagi" and the ward flower "Azalea (including Satsuki)" established to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the central ward system are also entertaining us everywhere in the ward.
Especially in the last few days, there have been many wind blowing days, and the appearance of willows fluttering has been very cool.

The Ginza Yanagi Festival has been held on May 5, 2006, in commemoration of Nishi Ginza Street being designated as a symbol road in Tokyo, and willows being planted and maintained.
There is also a very attractive event, from willows actually planted on Nishi-Ginza Dori, and there is also a very attractive event called "Ginza willow" seedling gift, which was directly pruned one by one, and some readers of this blog may have received the seedlings.

At the time of distribution of willow seedlings in Ginza (2018)

Unfortunately last year, the Ginza Yanagi Festival was canceled, and "Let's enjoy at home this year!" "Yanagi"-a symbol of Ginza spreading throughout the country" introduced Ginza willows with lush leaves not only in Chuo-ku but also throughout Japan.
(* As of April 6, 2021, the status of the Ginza willow Festival has not been announced yet. Click here for a list of events scheduled to be held this year.
While willow donated to various places grows over disasters, do you not worry about what the willow seedlings distributed at the event are now?

"Ginza Willow" Growth Diary ~ Spring 2021 ~

For the first time in 2018, when I started correspondent activities, I had a willow seedling in Ginza and raised it on the veranda, but it did not grow as expected due to lack of sunlight.
So, in 2019, we decided to leave the newly received willow in a better environment & manager's (parents) home!
Now that two years have passed, how much has Yanagi in my parents' home, grown?

It was a willow less than 15cm at the time I received it....

It has grown to about 160cm in the last two years! It was also a matter of time to pull out my height.
Several plants are grown in potted beside the entrance and are supported by vinyl tape so that they do not fall down.

On the other hand, the willows planted in the garden also grow negatively.
I haven't caught up with the surrounding trees yet, but I feel the vitality of the stems and leaves that grow steadily toward the sky.

However, there is an enemy that prevents the way.
It is also known as "banana insects" because its color and shape resemble bananas!
(If you are not good at insects, please read it!)

It seems to suck the juice of the plant, so I'm worried that willows will be harmed.
Furthermore, as for this insect, I pointed my camera to shoot and turned my back firmly while I focused on it, so I couldn't miss it (laughs).
However, if you look into it in detail, you have the habit of stopping once the enemy approaches and crawling sideways to move.
I was convinced of the reason why it was called "Yokobi".

For now, willows are growing without noticeable harm, but what will happen in the future?
One day, I dream of a day when I can see the wonderful willows of Ginza from the window of my parents' house, and I will continue to observe my growth regularly! (The management is left to my parents (laughs))
