Remains of Tsukiji's famous architecture
The "DENTSU Old Head Office Building" shows a distinctive form beside the ring line of Tsukiji's capital highway. It was designed by Kenzo Tange, who also designed the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, and was completed in 1967 (Showa 42) by the construction of Obayashi Gumi. It has long been used as the headquarters building of DENTSU, and even after the relocation of its headquarters in 2002, a group company moved in and was in service until 2014. It is also a nostalgic sight that DENTSU Group employees had a lively meal in the Tsukiji area during lunch break and after-five.
At the heart of Hideo Yoshida, who was said to be DENTSU's famous president, it was conceived as a base for extensive urban development in the Tsukiji area, but he died before the building was completed. At that time, a city plan was expected to look into a new era ahead of the Osaka Expo. This building was a symbolic building.
There were several buildings owned by the DENTSU Group, but now it is under the control of Sumitomo Realty & Development and is planned to be redeveloped together in the near future. Therefore, these buildings will gradually begin to be demolished in the future. It may not be that long to see the memorable appearance of "DENTSU Old Head Office Building".
DENTSU currently has a head office building in Shiodome, Minato-ku, but recent reports say it is considering selling it. There is a growing view that consumer behavior and working styles will change significantly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is that impact on the facility strategy of large companies?
You can even feel nostalgic in the famous architecture that symbolizes the glamorous era of high economic growth in the past.
