An exhibition by Yukidai Komura, a genius of design, "Komura Yukidai Style" is being held
Mitsui Memorial Museum
The momentum for re-evaluation of painter Komura Yukidai (1887-1940), also known as "Showa Spring Shin", is increasing. At the Hibiya Library and Culture Center, special exhibition's "Reproduction Artist Komura Yukidai" (~ March 24) and "Komura Yukidai Stai Loue Edo to Tokyo Modern" are being held at the Mitsui Memorial Museum.
Komura Yukidai is not enough to simply call it a "painter", but he is also involved in the design of products and advertising at the Shiseido Design Department, which has just started, and is still involved in the creation of the "Shiseido typeface" that is still used.
This exhibition introduces works that embody Tokyo modern from the best of Edo, such as bindings, illustrations, stage equipment paintings, and valuable hand-painted paintings and prints. Many of the exhibited works are from the Kiyomizu Minensaka Museum of Art, Kyoto, known for its collections of Meiji crafts.
Komura Yukidai was born in Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture, but lived in Nihonbashi Hinomonocho from the age of 15 in 1902 (1902) to the age of 23 in 1910 (1910). .
It is a Hinokimono town from Edo to Meiji. It is the current Yaesu 1-chome area. (The map is from "Nihonbashi Streetscape Prosperity History" Takashi Shiraishi) Nihonbashi Hinomonocho, a collection of essays, was published in 1942 after his death. Komura Yukidai was attracting attention after Kyoka's "Nihonbashi" was nominated by Kyoka Izumi. At this time, Yukidai was 27 years old, and later became in charge of many books for Kyoka, and became famous as an illustration artist for newspaper and magazine serial novels. Illustrations that came to be called "Snowdai-tone" have a reputation and have been said to have increased the number of subscribers to newspapers. The painting title "Snowdai" was also given by Kyoka Izumi.
This is a postcard (110 yen each) sold at the museum shop.
Did you know that the Nipponbashinishi Riverside Jizo-ji Church holds the "Painted Colored Osensei Figure" drawn by Komura Yukidai?
It was dedicated by Shotaro Hanayagi when performing Kyoka Izumi's original "Nihonbashi" at Meijiza in 1938. It is said to have been carved by Gyoki, and it enshrines Jizo Bodhisattva, which is said to have been the memorial Buddha of Daisho Tenkai, known as the "father of black coats" in the early Edo shogunate.
The last scene of Akechi Mitsuhide, the main character of NHK's Taiga drama series last year, reminded me of the theory that "I actually became a great monk of Tenkai without death."
The exhibition must be reserved for the date and time.
