This time, we will introduce the Namiki Shrine in Tsukiji (Nami Yokejinja: also known as Namiki Inari Shrine).

Then...

Goyu

Shrine 1 in Chuo-ku, a little worried.
 ~ Namiki-jinja Shrine ~

It is said that the construction of Namiki Inari Shrine was during the Manji period (1658-1661).

It is said that during the Manji period, when the construction was extremely difficult due to waves during the landfill of the Tsukiji area, the waves settled down and the landfill work was completed successfully when the statue of Inari Myojin drifted under the sea was enshrined.

Since the Edo period, the honorific name of "wagiri" has been worshiped by people as gods such as navigation safety, disaster prevention, and protection against misfortune.

The festival of Namiki Inari Shrine has been known as a lion festival since the Edo period, and during the festival, many lion heads walked around the town.

Many of the lion heads were lost due to the earthquake, war, etc., but the existing pair of lion heads (Chuo inhabitants' cultural properties) produced in the first year of Kaei (1848) is enshrined in the main shrine as a corporate treasure.

Even today, at the Tsukiji Lion Festival in June every year, "protection against misfortune Ceiling Lion" and "Bensaiten Otoguro Lion" are sometimes cruised to convey the tradition of the lion festival.

In addition, two Tensui bowls (Chuo Kumin Cultural Properties) in front of main hall were dedicated in 1838 by Koage who were engaged in unloading cargo from Owari clan ships.

In the Edo period, in the southern half of the former Tsukiji Market, there was a warehouse of the Owari Tokugawa family, where rice grains and specialty products of Owari were brought in.

This water bowl, dedicated to praying for the safety of the ship, is a valuable cultural property that conveys the religion of Namiki Inari Shrine.

- Chuo-ku Board of Education explanation board (partial reorganization)-

About 350 years ago, this Tsukiji area was a whole sea.

In the Keicho era Edo pictorial map at the time of the opening of Edo (1603), Shioiri is drawn up to the moat of Hibiya, and a ship government office can be seen on the coast of Yaesu.

The Edo southeast sea reclamation, which began to be buried from Hibiya inlets with the deep-fried soil of the moat, which was dug in the extension of the Edo Josai Maru, which began before the opening of the office, was later named Owaricho, Kagacho, etc.

Seventy years later, after the great fire of the Meiryaku era, the Tsukiji sea surface was extremely difficult to construct the last landfill that the 4th Shogun Ietsuna worked on.

Even if you build dike or build it, you will be caught by the waves.

One night there was something floating on the surface of the sea, and when people wondered and put out the ship, it was the sacred object of worship of the fine Inari Okami.

Everyone was afraid, and immediately built shrine hall in the present place and worshiped it, and everyone had a grand festival.

However, since then, the waves have settled down, the construction has been easy and the landfill has been completed.

This is the year 1659.

People were surprised at the new height of their virtue, worshiped Inari Ogami with the honorary name of "Waveshi", followed by clouds <dragon>, obeying the wind <trager>, and <lion> to intimidate all things with one voice It was the beginning of the festival "Tsukiji Lion Festival" that several heads were dedicated and carried around.

Since then, until now, as a wave removal Inari that overcomes the waves, except for disasters, has been revered for the virtue of disaster elimination, evil elimination, business connection, construction safety, etc.

The virtue was even larger since then, and Tsukiji, which was a remote area at the time, opened as soon as possible, and became a downtown area as it is now.

Votive Yoshinoya monument

Dedication Yoshinoya Monument A little worried Shrine 1 in Chuo-ku
 ~ Namiki-jinja Shrine ~

Here in Tsukiji, there was a founding shop in Yoshinoya of Gyudon.

Yoshinoya's history began when it opened in 1899 on the fish shore of Nihonbashi, once flourishing.

It is said that the name was named from Yoshinocho, Osaka, the birthplace of the founder Eikichi Matsuda.

After that, due to the effects of the Great Kanto Earthquake, it was relocated to this area along with the fish shore in 1926.

The store was burned down by the Great Tokyo Air Raid, but immediately after the end of the war, it resumed operations at the stalls.

And in 1959, we opened Tsukiji No. 1 store.

At first, the ingredients included seasonal ingredients and tofu, but the people who work in the market order beef because they want to eat beef.

Mizuho Matsuda, the second president, improved the menu in response to such a desire.

We have created a simple beef bowl using only more beef and onions to deepen the taste.

This gyudon was greatly loved in the market, and quickly spread to various places, becoming a national food that filled the stomach of Japanese people.

In 2016, with the relocation of the market again, "Tsukiji No. 1 Store" will also be relocated.

Yoshinoya's beef bowl, which has been patronized by many people for a long time in this area, is exactly the taste raised in this area.

ーFrom the explanation board attached -

I will show you rakugo this time. It's the 38th.

"Tsukiji" It is called "fish", and this connection can be associated with "Gonsukezakana", "Shibahama", "Yakukan", and "Teresko".

Gonsuke fish was shown on January 21, 2021, and Shibahama was shown on July 9, 2020, so this time we chose "Teresko".

It can not be said to be a "classical" or it is not a form of "Edo is Moto", but ...

Himo no dachi (himo no dachi)

It is also called "fire breakout", and it is to cut off food through fire as a wish.

"Telesuko"

I caught a rare fish in a fishing village. The fisherman doesn’t even know his name.

I'm going to ask magistrate's office, but the official doesn't know.

So he put up a high bill saying, "I will send a hundred ryo to those who know the name of this fish."

A merchant named Tadoya Shigerubei says, "This is a fish called Teresuko."

There is no way to confirm whether it is a lie or true, and hundreds of cars are handed over to Shigerubei.

O magistrate, I'll make a plan.

Make this fish a dried fish and put out a high bill again saying, "I will send one hundred cars to those who know the name of this fish."

Again, Shigeru Hyoe "This is" Sterenkyo "."

Shigeru is tied to a prison.

Shigeru, who has been sentenced to be beaten, will be able to meet his wife and children with his last wish.

A wife with a baby drinker, a thin figure if you look at it, and if you hear it, he is doing "fire breaking".

Shigeru Hyoe "Even if this child grows up, never let the dried squid be called sulume."

The magistrate who heard this, said, "I have made an excuse, and I am guilty."

The skin of the neck was connected with one slume.

That should be the case, because the wolf cut off fire (= dried fish).
