Tsukishima Church
One year after walking has become a habit. For me, what is "I get better" due to the COVID-19 pandemic is this walking habit and the reservation of the museum? If you change the route for daily walks every day, there is a new discovery called "In such a place!" One of such discoveries, "Tsukishima Seikokai" at Tsukishima 4-chome. It's built quietly in a part of the apartment. The first and second floors are nursery schools, and the church is on the third floor. It was my first time, so I looked into when it was built. According to the church's website, "In 1900, St. Luke Hospital Director R. Toysler built a sanatorium on Tsukuda Island, the foundation of the church was laid. In the land of Tsukishima, the establishment of St. Luke Kindergarten in 1920 will begin concrete church missionary activities."
"R. Toysler"? Speaking of which, R. Toysler was both a doctor and a missionary. When I searched on the Internet, I found a paper published in 2018 by Haruro Kawasaki in the bulletin of Tsukuba Gakuin University, entitled "When was St. Luke International Hospital born?"
Among them, "R. Toysler came to Japan in February 1900, and in 1901, the building (2-15, Tsukuda Shimashin Tsukuda Shimashin Nishimachi, Kyobashi-ku) The clinic was opened at the same time as Luke Hospital. " The above is an open advertisement. After finishing the medical treatment at St. Luke Hospital in the morning, Dr. R. Toysler went to the St Andare Clinic on Tsukuda Island from Funamatsumachi to Tsukuda-no-Hari. This clinic has been closed in about a year, probably because it was difficult to hang on. The St Andare Clinic was located in a part of the current Tsukuda 2-11.
And the announcement of "New Tsukudashima Teaching Condition". "There are preaching and Bible lectures every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday nights at this clinic ..." The history of Tsukuda Island and Tsukishima Island and the Holy Public Society is long.
"The kindergarten will be closed after the war, but it was reopened as St. Luke Nursery School in 1954 after the war, and has continued to this day." (HP) The current building is said to have been completed in March 2011.
It seems that various events and courses are held in the church, and you can see that it is familiar to the local people. Sunday worship is currently suspended, but I would like to hit the door when the world calms down.
