Design of medals for the Summer Olympic Games
Strict regulations are stipulated in the design of the Summer Olympic medals.
From 1928 to 2000, the design of the medal has hardly changed. The medal was always engraved on one side of the medal with palm leaves on the left hand and the winner's crown on the right hand, Nike, the goddess of victory in Greek mythology. Since 2004, Nike with wings has been engraved in front of the ancient stadium in Athens. The medal is also engraved with Olympic emblems, official names of the tournament, names of competitions and types, and emblems of the Organizing Committee (OCOG).
