How was "Otomi-san" made?
Chuo-ku is a land that has been deeply involved in the history of Edo Kabuki, and at the same time, it is known that it was a sophisticated town where various cultures spread and was superior to Paris at the time.
One of the popular kyogens of Kabuki's Caregivers, Yohanasuke Kina no Yokogushi, is generally famous as "Otomiyosaburo" with the names of characters. In particular, the song "Otomi-san", which was sung by Hachiro Kasuga, a popular singer of the past, and became a big hit in 1954 (Showa 29), became known to those who did not watch Kabuki.
One of the protagonists, Tomi, lived in [Genji store] (Genjidana / Genyadana), but the model was near the current Ningyocho station [Genji store] It is a corner called Genyadana. It was said that it was such a place because it was the site of a mansion of a person named Genya Okamoto, who was the lord of the Shogunate.
At that time, the Ningyocho area was a entertainment district where plays and vaudeville gathered, so it seems that many entertainment-related people lived. You mean that you lived in a corner of such a lively area. There is a monument to show the place.
Sanko Inari Shrine has been worshiped for a long time on Sanko Shindo, which is nearby. According to one theory, Kabuki actor Sanjuro Seki, who often appeared in a playhouse around here, recommended by Fushimiinari. The old town name was [Hase Kawamachi], but in the early Edo period it was called [Negimachi]. It is said that there was a residence of Shinto priesthood (the priest) at [Sugimori Shrine] nearby. In this [Negimachi], "Saruwakaza" (later Nakamuraza), which was launched in Nakahashi Minamichi (now near Kyobashi), set up a temporary hut, and then [Sakaimachi] (currently near Ningyocho 3-chome). By the way, "Otomiyosaburo" has an original story. Yosaburo is modeled by Isaburo Yoshimura, the fourth generation who was said to be a master of Nagauta. "Isaburo" from Togane, Shimousa country, is hurt by a group because he became in love with his local lover "Kichi" in Kisarazu.
