Mitsukoshi Theater Tour ~ Mitsukoshi Rakugokai ~
The tour of the Mitsukoshi Theater has finally started. The Mitsukoshi Theater celebrates its 95th anniversary in 2022. It was born on the 6th floor of Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Building as a theater in a department store that is unparalleled in the world. In rebuilding the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store, which was severely damaged by the Great Kanto Earthquake, a theater was created based on the idea of "not only buildings but also cultural reconstruction", and in 2016 Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store was designated as a national important cultural property. In order to receive this, the decoration style of the Mitsukoshi Theater was highly evaluated. Please tell us about the history and charm of "Mitsukoshi Rakugokai", a pioneer of hall rakugo that has continued since 1953, and enjoy it with the space wrapped in splendid decorations.…It was a greeting from the person in charge of the theater. The Mitsukoshi Theater is a stage of a proscenium arch (frame) with a frontage of about 12m and a depth of about 6m. The hall has a decoration based on the Lococo style. Using gray marble, the overall color tone is gray, the surrounding wall is made of gypsum sculpture, the ceiling is fitted with eight stained glass, and the back ceiling pattern is a stencil that combines 78 different color tones. We introduced the latest air conditioning, which was rare at the time. The construction was carried out by Yokogawa Works, and the stained glass was handled by Shichiro Beppu. Speaking of Mitsukoshi, it is a lion statue, but there are lion statues at both ends of the stage.
