[Excursion Series 33rd] Connect to Naozane Kumagai! This is Hatoi-do

Hello. The active activity is Hanes (Hanes) which is inactive.
As announced in the previous excursion series, this time I would like to dig deeper into Chuo-ku with the keyword "dove"!

I was spoiled in the photo of the top, but this time I focus on Hatoido.
Hatoido Tokyo Main Store in Ginza, Chuo-ku is a store specializing in incense, calligraphy supplies, postcards, stationery, gold seals, and Japanese paper products.
I have used it several times because of our high-quality products.

(6:00 a.m., before the opening of the Hatoido Tokyo Main Store)

This shop is now popular with many people as a long-established store, but it opened in 1880 (Meiji 13).
This opening year is engraved on the stone at the top right of the entrance.

However, if you look closely at the stone at the top left of the entrance, it is engraved with 1663!
Even if this number is the year, it's more than 200 years earlier than opening.
What does this mean?

The answer was in Kyoto.
According to the history of Hatoi-do, in 1663, Jikishin Kumagai started the medicinal merchant "Hatoi-do" in front of Honno Terakado in Teramachi, Kyoto.
Later, a branch office was set up in Ginza because it was necessary to work for the palace.

In other words, at the top of the entrance of Hatoido Tokyo Main Store, both the opening year of Hatoido itself and the opening year of the Tokyo Main Store are engraved!

And it is the name of Hatoido, according to the official website, it is said that it is derived from "Imagi Yusu, Igainoyuki" in Shonan's edition of "Shikei".
It is said that the pigeon entrusted to the magpie's nest has the intention of humility that "the store is the customer's."

The name of the shop was named Murokyuso, a Confucian scholar known as the author of Yoshito Akaho.
The name of the Kumagai family's family crest "Our Pigeon" and the name of Murotosu are also derived from the name.

I have never thought deeply about the name of Hatoido before.
However, by examining this way, I realized that it was deeper than expected, and I was able to know the founder's thoughts about the store.
It's worth checking out what you're worried about, not leaving it as it is.

The ancestors of Hatoido founder and Chuo-ku

It is Chokushin Kumagai, the founder of Hatoido, but is actually the 20th generation from Naozane Kumagai, who is known for defeating Atsumori Tairano in the battle of Ichinoya.
Chuo-ku is a city that has been developed and prospered mainly since the Edo period, but there is a place related to Naozane Kumagai in Chuo-ku.
That is Kumagaya Inari Shrine, which is also included in the course around Ginza Hachikan Shrine.

In any case, after the battle of Ichinoya, when he returned from Kamakura to his hometown of Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture, he received a talisman tag on this land.
Later, he fled the war and is still known as the god of fire prevention, good luck, and thriving business.

This time, going back to the opening of Hatoido, there was an unexpected discovery.
I will become more and more involved in correspondent activities to see if there are any other discoveries.

For more information about the shrine, an article by senior correspondent Sakuraya Yoi-san, "The wish is fulfilled, Kumagaya Inari Shrine is the 12th company to visit Hatcho Shrine!" And see "Kumagaya Inari Shrine, which has a history of more than 800 years that disappeared from the map, has returned to Ginza 7-chome Hanatsubaki-dori on March 2!"
