Co-starring of glass buildings and 14 colors of art - Ginza Maison Hermes / Julio Le Parque Exhibition
"Ginza Maison Hermes" (Ginza 5-4-1) near the Sukiyabashi intersection. It was completed in 2001 as a building for the flagship store of the famous French brand Hermes and a Japanese corporation.
The main feature of this building is the glass block that covers most of the exterior walls. In the daytime, it shines silver and gives a cool impression, but at night the interior light leaks out through glass blocks, and the entire building shines as soft as lantern.
(By the way, this glass block is not stacked, but it seems that it secures seismic performance by installing it from above.)
Now you can see the wide side of the side.
Ginza Maison Hermes, but since the "Sony Building" (completed in 1966) on the west side was dismantled in 2018 and became a short "Ginza Sony Park", it is now possible to see the whole picture from a wider area including the Sukiyabashi intersection.
When the Sony Building was located, it was difficult to see except along Harumi-dori St., which has a narrow frontage, but now we can see the wide depth direction, so our presence is increasing.
Art using bold walls will be exhibited for a limited time!
By the way, at present, a huge rainbow-colored art work is on display using this wide wall.
This is a work called "Series 14-2 Split Yen" by Argentine-born and French-based artist Julio Le Parque.
This huge work has been set up in conjunction with the "Le Parque's Color Play and Project" at the "Forum" on the 8th and 9th floors of Maison Hermes.
By the way, until October 14th, another work called "Long Walk" was on display, and then the exhibition was changed over half a month.
A solo exhibition is being held at "Forum" in the building
The exhibition is Japan's first solo exhibition by Le Parque. Le Parque has been creating a group of works using only 14 colors he has conceived since a certain period, and this exhibition showcases those works and numerous experimental processes.
Although the colors used are only 14 colors, the possibilities of expression expand infinitely just by changing the shape, combination and arrangement.
The elevator is interesting
In this exhibition, what I would like to recommend is the elevator!
Currently, to go to the forum, it is a route to get on the elevator from the entrance on the Sony Park side, which is different from the store, and Le Parque's work is also exhibited in this elevator.
The mechanism of the work in this elevator is very interesting. I'm planning to go to see it again during the exhibition because it's just a fun experience (laughs).
I think artists and viewers are equal, and I feel that I was able to experience Le Parque's ideas, who have created many artworks that anyone can participate in.
I would like to introduce the details.…I would like you to experience it, so I would like to have it fun to go to the site.
(In addition, the work that is permanently installed outside the elevator shown in the photo is "Dedicated to space" by Shingu. It is a mechanism that moves slowly by the wind, so please take a closer look. )
The solo exhibition will be held until the end of November and the facade exhibition will be held until the end of December.
The Julio Le Parque exhibition will be held until November 30, 2021. Admission is free, and opening hours are from 11:00 to 19:00 (final admission 18:30). ※Closed on November 20 (Sat)
The exhibition using the wall seems to be scheduled to continue until the end of December after the solo exhibition, so it seems that you can enjoy a little more after the solo exhibition.
And in front of Maison Hermes, the demolition of "Ginza Sony Park" has begun, of which a new "Sony Building" will appear. The period during which you can see the whole view of Maison Hermes from Sukiyabashi is running low.
If you are visiting Ginza Maison Hermes, we recommend this fall, especially during November!
