Architecture in Chuo-ku (9) Catholic Tsukiji Church Cathedral
The Catholic Tsukiji Church Cathedral (5-26 Akashicho) was the second Christian church after Nagasaki and Yokohama, and a temporary cathedral was built in the Tsukiji Foreign Settlement in 1874 (1874).
In 1878, a full-fledged brick cathedral was built, but it was burned down by the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923.
In 1927, the current cathedral was completed.
It is a Greek temple Parthenon style, which is rare for a church, but it is not made of stone but made of wooden mortar.
There are six Doris-type cylinders on the front, and the pediment (triangular gable) is carved with roses and lilies.

Inside the cathedral, the corridors on both sides are divided by Doris-type cylinders, and the center is a church with a higher ceiling.
The statue of St. Peter
The statue on the right side of the entrance of the cathedral is one of the twelve Apostles of Christ.
It is a statue of St.
According to the explanation board, it was placed in the cathedral with three other saints in 1878, but the cathedral was destroyed by the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, leaving only this statue of St. Peter.
The copper-made Western bell "Janne Louise of Edo"
On the right side of the door to the premises, there is a copper bell cast in France in 1876.
This Western bell is a historical bell named "Janne Louise in Edo" by the priest at the time, Father Lumaresha.
