Sumidagawa Bridges Night Chuo-ku: Mikiko Ishii's work tour

As of January 1, 2022 (Reiwa 4), 12 bridges are lit up on the Sumida River in a bridge managed by Tokyo Metropolitan Government.

- 6 bridges that started lighting up in 2020: Tsukiji Ohashi, Kachidokibashi, Tsukuda-ohashi Bridge, Kiyosu Bridge, Azuma-bashi Bridge, Shirahige Bridge

- 4 bridges that were renewed in 2020. Eitai Bridge, Kuramae Bridge, Umaya Bridge, Komagata Bridge

- 2 bridges constructed in the Heisei era: Chuo-ohashi Bridge, Shinohashi Bridge

Mikiko Ishii is working on the maintenance of the landscape lighting of the 10 bridges held in 2020 as part of the "Host City Tokyo Project", which was held at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. According to the website of Motoko Ishii Design Office, based on the basic policy of "making the most of the structural beauty and color of the bridge itself," the design concept was "passing on the beauty of Japan and creating a new space and time through the dynamism of Tokyo." Five of the 10 bridges designed by Mikiko Ishii (from the left in the photo above, Tsukiji Ohashi, Kachidokibashi, Tsukuda-ohashi Bridge, Eitai Bridge, Kiyosu Bridge) are located in Chuo-ku.

Kabuki-Za

Kabukiza Theater Night Chuo-ku: Mikiko Ishii's work tour

Completed in 2013 (2013). Designed by Mr. Kuma Kengo and Mitsubishi Estate. The lighting was designed by Mikiko Ishii and her only daughter, Lisa Ishii. Kabukiza is the fifth-generation building, inheriting the appearance and inner view of the fourth-generation Kabukiza.

According to news (February 15, 2013) on Kabuki's official website, Kabuki Bijin (Kabukibito), in order to express the seasonal feeling that changes throughout the year with a variation of white light, warm white in winter and warm white in spring and autumn, and pure white in summer, light up three types of white light. In addition, there are three changes overnight, such as full lighting for the evening pattern, half lighting for the night pattern, and partial lighting for the late night pattern, and nine types of lighting are deployed annually.
