About 30 years of history
Thank you, Harumi Passenger Terminal!
Hello. Hanes, whose home time is getting longer due to the cold winter.
Meanwhile, on February 20 (Sun), we visited the Harumi Passenger Ship Terminal, which was close to close, aiming for a relatively warm day.
I've always heard that the terminal will be dismantled after the end of the global sports festival due to several reasons, such as the size of the cruise ship and the aging of facilities, but at the end of last year, the Tokyo Metropolitan Port and Harbor Bureau announced the closing date, and the closing date was clear.
Since then, I've seen many people visiting Harumi Wharf on social media and other media to see the end of the terminal up close.
Unfortunately, due to the application of priority measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection, the exhibition that looked back on the history of the Harumi Passenger Terminal, which was scheduled to be held from February 1, was postponed.
Will it be closed or dismantled as it is?
I would like to introduce the history and current situation of Harumi Passenger Terminal with the desire to open it again with the main photos.
History and Buildings
In the first place, the Harumi Passenger Terminal opened on May 23, 1991 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the opening of Tokyo Port.
According to the Yomiuri Shimbun on May 17, 2015, the terminal is a nine-story, futuristic appearance covered with white mesh steel frames, and there are halls, observation deck, galleries and restaurants.
On August 22 of the same year, "It is a strong mark and landmark that foresee the future of the waterfront," "There is a romantic mood at night when the entire terminal is lit up, and many couples talk happily. "
From here, it can be seen that various expectations have been put in since the opening, and that it was a place that was familiar and loved by visitors.
As a matter of fact, it was exactly the same, and the Rainbow Bridge looked beautiful, so it was a constant place for visitors day and night.
In addition to being filmed as a location for a number of works, the object "Fuyumo Gin Ran" by Michio Ihara is often featured as an Instagram spot, and I visited many times.
And the characteristic building of the Harumi Passenger Terminal, which can be found immediately on the opposite bank or on the Rainbow Bridge, was designed by the late Minoru Takeyama.
He is one of the leading postmodern architects who also worked on "SHIBUYA 109".
The white mesh steel frame looks like a triangular roof.
Here's a little aside.
It's like this black tower right next to the iconic building of the terminal, but I guess many people are worried about something.
According to the Japan Coast Guard, this is called the "Harumi Signal Station" and controls traffic in the harbor.
What does the blinking of "F" in the photo mean is "free signals (both entry and departure are possible)".
There are various other signals, and you can check the details here.
If you visit the port after having such knowledge of traffic lights, you may be able to enjoy a more stroll.♪
What is the current situation?
As for the current situation of the Harumi Passenger Ship Terminal (as of February 12, 2022), the entire area inside and outside the building has been closed for the time being due to the influence of COVID-19 infection.
As you can see, pedestrian passages have been closed and are not allowed to enter and exit, but buses and vehicles seem to be allowed.
However, due to the fact that there are only a few remaining until the museum is closed and dismantled, I was impressed by a relatively large number of people visiting men and women of all ages for photography.
We decided to change the schedule and look at the Harumi Passenger Terminal from promenade (North Route) on the north side of Rainbow Bridge after a long absence!
(* The southern promenade (South Route) is closed until March 14, but the north side is visible to Chuo-ku.)
We photographed the Harumi Passenger Terminal illuminated by the setting sun, the buildings used in the global sports festival, the tower apartment, and the chimney of the Harumi Incineration Plant.
After the terminal closes, the building will begin preparations for dismantling, but you can enjoy it for a while.
When you visit the waterfront area, why don't you take a look at the history of about 30 years?
