The scent of spring
Cold days continue, but around the southern corner of Tsukiji Honganji Temple, I feel the sign of spring at the sinking flower that began to bloom near the ruins of the gate bridge.
Tsukiji is a land built in the Edo period by reclaiming the sea. Honganji, which was located near Yokoyamacho, was also affected by the great fire of the Meiryaku era and moved to Tsukiji. It seems that the digging left for boating connecting the Sumida River to each riverbank has become the Tsukiji River.
The Tsukiji River was classified into three types: the main stream, the Higashi tributary River, and the Nanshi River. There was the Tsukiji River Nanshi River from the back of Tsukiji Honganji Temple and near St. Luke Hospital toward Tsukiji.
Most of the main stream, the Higashi tributary and Nanshi rivers have been reclaimed, and now the main stream only leaves about 750m near the mouth of the river. The site of the Nanshi River is used as a Tsukiji River Park, parking lot, and bicycle parking lot.
The main pillars and railings of the gate ruins bridge over the Nanshi River remain on the sidewalk of Harumi-dori St. I was able to enjoy the scent of spring while remembering the Tsukiji River.
