Kawase Zenbei Shoten, a Japanese lantern production and sales shop in Horidome-cho, Nihonbashi

Kawase Zenbei Shoten Japanese lantern

I decided to visit a Dutch company, a business partner of the company I run, in May, and I wondered what I would bring as a souvenir. I asked you to make lanterns at `` Kawase Zenbei Shoten '' in the neighborhood of Nihonbashi Horidome-cho, which is often visited by a tourist guide, and I thought that if you put the company name (forcibly) Japanese and put it in, you will be pleased immediately I ordered.

Kawase Zenbei Shoten, a "Japanese lantern production and sales shop" in Horidomecho, Nihonbashi, Japanese lantern.

The name of the partner company was "Sightcorp" (Sightcorp), so I chose the following Japanese to make it auspicious Japanese.

Aya Miyako (site): It means Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands.

Inspiration (cop): This is equivalent to Encourage or Inspire.

At the same time, I also put my home's "family crest" (rounded by three Kashiwa). I hope that if you visit Sightcorp and give them souvenirs, you will get excited about the topic of Japanese lantern for a while.

It is rare to visit a lantern shop, so I would like to introduce everyone to Kawase Zenbei Shoten.

There are many lantern shops in Asakusa, but there are only two in the vicinity of Ningyocho, including Kawase Shoten.

Kawase Zenbei Shoten refers to the Ansei period during the Edo period (from 1855 to 1860). The Emperor of this era was Emperor Komei. It is said that the Edo Shogunate Shogun was founded by Iesada Tokugawa and Ieshige Tokugawa, but since the Meiji era it was damaged by fire, the Great Kanto Earthquake, and the Great Tokyo Air Raid, the materials were burned down and the details are not clear. According to the record, the store was located from Meiji period to Horidome-cho and made and sold Japanese lantern.
After the war, manufacturing was carried out at a workshop in Edogawa-ku, and sales and wholesale were performed at shops, but now the workplace in Edogawa-ku is closed, manufacturing is outsourced and sold and wholesale. I am.
Japanese lantern has been around for a long time, but it is said that Japan's unique Japanese lantern, which is made using bamboo straw and paper as seen today, has been made since around Azuchi-Momoyama period.

Japanese lantern Production Process

The production of Japanese lantern is now divided into labor, and the following craftsmen are required to make lanterns.

l Bamboo bone production → Cut the paper → Make up the upper and lower frame → Putting paper together → Writing crest characters → Paste the finishing frame → Finishing

l Materials: Bamboo, Japanese paper. Woodwork

Japanese lantern is basically divided into three types: round, long, and cylindrical. This time I decided to bring a long round Japanese lantern to the Netherlands. It is used as a predatory item in the Edo period.

The shop is lined with various kinds of Japanese lantern, such as Bon Japanese lantern and Japanese lantern for festivals, Odawara lanterns and bowed Japanese lantern. Along with the name of the store that makes you feel the times, you can see how traditional Japanese culture is alive.
