Gate and Gate Ruins @ Chuo-ku

Spring is a new beginning season. In this blog, we will introduce two gates and two gates in Chuo-ku.

The French Gate of Yasuaki Elementary School

The main gate of Yasuaki Elementary School, facing Ginza Miyuki Street, is called the French Gate. It is said that the gate in the nobles' house in southern France was imported and installed, and it is a very elegant design set up on a fence with an arched opening.

Incidentally, the school building of Yasuaki Elementary School was built in 1929 as one of the reconstruction elementary schools following the Great Kanto Earthquake, and was selected as the Historic buildings in Tokyo in 1999.

The main hall of Tsukiji Honganji Temple, the gate pillars (from the left above, the north gate, the main gate, and the south gate) and the stone walls surrounding the site were designated as Important National Cultural Properties in 2014. Completed in 1934 (Showa 9). It was designed by Chuta Ito, one of the designers of Meiji-jingu Shrine. main hall is made of reinforced concrete in ancient Indian Buddhism style. The design of the gate pillars and stone walls is common to main hall, creating a unique landscape with a sense of unity.

※In particular, Tsukiji Honganji at night has an atmosphere away from Japan.

The site of Joban Hashikado

Joban Hashikado Site and Gate Site @ Chuo-ku

Tokiwa Hashikado is one of the outer gates of Edo Castle and was built in 1629 (Kanei 6). Because it leads to the Otemon gate of Edo Castle main gate, it leads to Oshu Dochu or Nikko Dochu via Asakusa, so it is also called Asakusaguchi, and it is also called Tayasumon (Joshuguchi), Kanda Hashikado (Shibasakiguchi), Hanzomon (Koshuguchi) and Soto Sakuradamon (Oda Haraguchi).

It seems that it was a Masugata gate composed of Ichinomon (Koryomon) and Ninomon (Watatoguramon), and the stone wall of the cut-off (how to stack the shaped stones in close contact) is reminiscent of the time.

Site of Shibakuchi Gomon

Shibakuchi Gomon Ruins Gate and Gate Ruins @ Chuo-ku

In 1710 (Hoei 7), Edo shogunate built the Edo Castle Shibakuchi Gomon on the occasion of the Korean correspondent's visit to Japan to show off its dignity. It is said to be due to the invention of Arai Shiraishi. Since it was burned down in 1724 (Kyoho 9), it has not been rebuilt and the stone wall has been removed.

The appearance of Shibakuchi Gomon in the past is depicted on the copper plate of the monument built at the site of the gate, and like Joban Hashikado, it seems that it was a Masugata gate composed of Ichinomon (Koryomon) and Ninomon (Wataguramon). .

Tokiwa Hashikado and Shibakuchi Gomon-I think both gates were very spectacular. It's a bit disappointing that I can't see the real thing.
