Although it is divided into Harumi-dori St., there is also "Sukiyabashi Park" on the Ginza 4-chome side.

The main statue of 4-chome 1 is the above two images, "Todai".

In the English translation, it is "Lighthouse".

Copper carving "Lighthouse" by Seibo Kitamura

Ginza 4-1-2 Sukiyabashi Park

The copper sculpture of the tower commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake was created by sculptor Seibo Kitamura (1884-1987) at the age of 47.

Kitamura produced this sculpture in conjunction with the 12th Art Exhibition of the Imperial Art Academy held in 1931, and exhibited it under the title of "Light Tower".

Seibo Kitamura was born in Nagasaki Prefecture in 1884, studied at the Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts and the Tokyo Bijutsu School Sculpture Department, and has produced many excellent sculptures since before the war.

Among them, Nagasaki City's "Peace Memorial Statue", which was produced in 1955, is one of his representative works.

"Lighthouse" is a work in which a powerful young man dressed as a helmet, dedicated a torch, and listened to a lion.

This statue creates a realistic and powerful figure full of hegemony that Kitamura is good at.

This work was installed on September 1, 1933, the 10th anniversary of the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, as a sculpture suitable for the earthquake disaster memorial tower.

At the time of installation, Kitamura also produces a casting nameplate with the slogan "Continent preparations for unexpected earthquakes" selected from stone pedestal design and more than 100,000 entries.

The copper sculpture "Londai" is handed down as a commemorative tower that conveys the history of the earthquake while expressing the excellent modeling art by sculptor Seibo Kitamura.
