The birthplace of Meiji University
Meiji Law School (now Meiji University) opened on January 17, 1881 in the area where the former residence of Matsudaira feudal lord, Hizen Shimabara.
The founders, Tatsuo Kishimoto, Kozo Miyagi, and Misao Yashiro, went to Daigakuminami School on behalf of the Tottori, Tendo and Sabae clans as tribute students, and then studied French law in Boathonard at the Meiho Dormitory.
After that, he studied abroad in France and established the university with the aim of spreading the spirit of "rights and freedoms and self-government".
At that time, they were all white-faced students under 30 years old (Hakumen no Shosei: a young man who was not yet fully trained).
The birthplace of Meiji University (Fukamizo [Furukozu] Matsudaira House Ruins)
In the past, near this area facing the Sotobori River, there was a Kamiyashiki of the Fukamizo Matsudaira family, who ruled the Hizen Shimabara Domain (now Nagasaki Prefecture) since 1691 (Genroku 4).
After the Meiji Restoration, the mansion was rented out without expropriation by the government, and speeches by civil rights associations were actively held.
On January 17, 1881 (Meiji 14), young lawyers Tatsuo Kishimoto, Kozo Miyagi, and Misao Yashiro rented a part of the mansion and opened the Meiji Law School (the predecessor of Meiji University) in 1886 (Meiji 19), and moved to Suruga, Kandau-ku, Kandau-ku.
In 1995, a monument to the birthplace of Meiji University was erected in the same area.
・・・ The birthplace of Rosmari's alma mater was in Chiyoda-ku, about 10 steps from Chuo-ku.
I've learned recently.
