Hello. I'm Hanes, an active correspondent.
As you may know, there is a nickname on the road in Chuo-ku.
According to the Chuo-ku Road Nickname, which is posted on the Chuo-ku Office website, nicknames are set for a total of 99 routes, including 43 routes in the Kyobashi area, 46 routes in the Nihonbashi area, and 10 routes in the Tsukishima area. I am.
Of these, nicknames for street trees, flowers, and greenery account for about 15% of the total, and Hanatsubaki-dori, a street that intersects near Ginza 7-chome and 8-chome on Chuo-dori, is one of them.
I think Ginza has the image of willow, but what kind of relationship does Hanatsubaki have with Ginza?

According to the official website of Ginza Hanatsubaki Street, the nickname comes from the fact that Izumo camellia (Yabutsubaki), donated by Izumo in 1934, was planted as a street tree.
So, how did Izumo camellia donated by Izumo?
Back in 1872, Shiseido, founded along this street in 1872, planted Yabu Tsubaki to deepen its connection with Izumo.
In 1915, he devised Hanatsubaki, a trademark, and registered as a trademark in 1919.
It is said that the flower camellia was inspired by the camellia of Yaegaki Shrine in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture.
However, it can be seen that there was already a relationship with Izumo before the adoption of Hanatsubaki as a trademark.
Let's take a closer look back on the history.

The time is Edo. When Ieyasu Tokugawa called on the daimyo of various clans and reclaimed the Hibiya Irie and expanded the castle town, Yoshiharu Horio, famous as the first castle owner of Matsue Castle, and Matsue clan, built and maintained a daimyo residence.
Since the Matsue clan owned Izumo one country, the area was named "Izumo-cho" and the street was called "Izumo-dori". (Renamed from Izumo-cho to the current "Ginza 7-chome / 8-chome" after the war.)
In other words, it can be said that Shiseido inherited the relationship with Izumo, which has continued since the Edo period, and exchanges through Izumo camellia were born.
It is not the season when camellia blossoms bloom in early July, but I walked along the street in search of camellia planted as street trees.
Then, I found a fine Yabu Tsubaki (Izumo Tsubaki) near Sotobori-dori St.!
According to the tree nameplate attached to the tree, it was donated by Izumo City in June 1992, 30 years ago.

I saw a camellia tree that was so big that I looked up.
On the other hand, a small cute Yabu camellia was also planted between the rows of flowering trees, indicating that they were raised carefully.

As with willows in Ginza, it is interesting that camellia also had exchanges between Chuo-ku and other cities.
In addition, "Tsubaki" seen along the street is not only a street tree, but also a ponytail girl statue "Hana" designed by Hiroyuki Mogi, a sculptor from Niigata, has camellia flowers.

This is to commemorate the completion of an environmental improvement project such as beautification of the street that Chuo-ku and Ginza Hanatsubaki-dori Shopping Street Promotion Association have been promoting together, and in 1993 (1993) after the nickname of the road "Hanatsubaki-dori". It was installed in.

Navi can be used without any inconvenience in the city of Ginza, and there are many buildings and shops that serve as landmarks.
Therefore, there are few people who rely on the nickname of the road when they get lost, except for some people.
The nicknamed roads, which still have room to spread, have their respective groups, entertainment, history, culture and street lights banners.
Tagagaga-dori, sir. When you come to Chuo-ku, why don't you touch the history of the road (street), which is nicknamed, and the culture and exchange that has been nurtured so far?
