The inside of the wall is another world

From Ningyocho intersection, walk about 3 minutes in the direction of Meijiza, and you will find a mansion in Sukiya style surrounded by tall walls on your left. The inside of the wall is like another world where different time flows. This is the Genji store Hamada family, the representative restaurant of Ningyocho.

This area is the place where Genya Okamoto, a scripture physician, worshiped the mansion for his achievement in remedying the illness of Tokugawa's third shogun Iemitsu. It was called "Genji Shop" because he built a house there and rented it to the common people. It's the Hamada family of Genji store because it's in that place.

And this is the place where the first entertainment district in Edo, the former Yoshiwara was built. Nearby were Nakamura-za and Ichimura-za of Edo Kabuki. The playhouses lined up and puppeteers of Karakuri dolls lived, so the name of Ningyocho was later given.

Until the early Showa era, it was a gorgeous flower district of Yoshicho, ten vaudeville, such as Suehirotei and Ki Ogitei, and more than 40 cafes, all of which were within walking distance. The Genji store Hamada family was born in Shinwa Izumicho (now Ningyocho 3-chome), where the history of continuous history from Edo is alive, celebrating its 110th anniversary this year (2022).

※The Genji store stone monument and the explanation board are located near the Ningyocho intersection Hisamatsucho.

There is no sound of cars coming and going on Koza Street inside the fence. It's as if you had slipped back in time to the old Ningyocho.

Japanese cuisine that tastes the four seasons

The inside of the Japanese restaurant fence where you can taste the four seasons is the Hamada family, a Genji store in Ningyocho, where the history of another world is alive.

I can't help but comment on cooking. It was not only the food but also the attention. He gave the rice to a cute box, "Do you want to take it home?" The sake of the collaboration between the Hamada family and Akita Sake Brewery, named "Otomi, Yosaburo", was also very elegant.

The pictures and ikebana are changed according to the garden that changes with the season. Today's flowers are forgotten with Renge Oyama. It seems that Sukiya style's Sukiro comes from favoring the flow of ikebana and other winds, and when said, it makes me feel the atmosphere again. It seems that some people come alone and enjoy reading after meals. It's a luxurious way of spending time.

The landlady came to greet me. Your name is Mr. Mita. The president of Meijiza is also Mita. But he did not collaborate with Meijiza, saying, "I don't have a business spirit, or I'm quietly standing out." Speaking of which, this year's Michelin Guide Tokyo in 2022. ☆It is listed as one store, but the shop doesn't say it.

Many of our customers have dinner at work. It seems that many individuals are used in weddings and celebration at home. While there are many restaurants that do not welcome children, Hamadaya also welcomes children. Even though all rooms are private rooms, single guests are welcome, so you don't feel "business". However, I am confident that "one who has come once will come again" and "one who is invited to the wedding seat (at the Hamada family) will come to dinner."

The name of the Hamada family begins with Yoshicho, known as a flower town, and the geisha shop "Hamada family" located at Ningyocho 2-chome. Sadayakko, the entertainer of the Hamada family, is said to have been the best geisha in Japan, who excelled in Nimai and was a talented and talented artistIto Hirobumi at the time. Later, she became known as Japan's first actress, Sadato Kawakami. When the Hamada family closed the store at the end of the Meiji era, Sadayakko took over the historical name of the Hamada family.

In 1923 (1923), there were 898 geishas in Yoshicho, but in 1976 there were only 76 in 1976 and this year in 2022. Right now, only the Hamada family can call geisha in Ningyocho. (By the way, the hospitality fee is 120,000 yen for 2 hours for two people, shamisen and dance).

The love of love is an enemy.
Hachiro Kasuga's "You must have died, Mr. wealth,"

The affection of love is an enemy ... Hachiro Kasuga's "I should have died, wealthy" wall is the Genji store Hamada family in Ningyocho, where another world history lives.

Speaking of "Otomi-san" and "Kirire Yozo", a Kabuki masterpiece depicting the story of wealth and Yosaburo, "Yowana Sasukeukina Yokogushi."

Yosaburo, the bad son of a large store, is at a glance at the local concubine, wealth. The situation is revealed and seldom cut. The wealth also threw himself into the sea, but both died. Three years later, Yosaburo, who was lying down, accidentally entered the concubine house of wealth, and the two people who thought they died again. The famous scene begins with "Shigane, love is an enemy ...". The song of Hachiro Kasuga's "You should have died, wealthy" also became famous (in the play, Genji wrote Genji as Genji and Genji store). It is reported that there was a wealth house around the shop's "Snow Room".

Mr. Nakai's work is beautiful. But if you look closely, you can put your knees and pull the door sideways, close the door with your knees, serve dishes with your knees, lower them, and knees ... it's hard.

Nakai took care of me, "I'm tired of wearing a kimono for the first time in a long time," "I'm sweating with a kimono," and "I'll work with kimono." It's a problem that it's hard to get together even if you recruit staff only for hard work, but everyone who comes in seems to grow up as women. Everyone, including the landlady, participates in the tea practice once a month. Perhaps because of that, "the work will be clean."

"Everyone is working happily in a well-ventilated workplace." From such a place, the hospitality of Genji store Hamadaya has begun.

The finest meal and high-quality "Hamada Family Day Time" starts at 19,800 yen, and at night starts at 33,000 yen. Service charges and consumption tax. Complete reservation required. 3-13-5 Nihonbashi Ningyocho 03-3661-5940 www.hamadaya.info/        info@hamadaya.info
