Tokyo Head Office Building of Inabata & Co.
One Sunday afternoon, I was walking along the old Oshu / Nikko Kaido, and a surprising company name came into my eyes.
"Inabata & Co." is famous among those who invest in Japanese stocks, especially among those who are interested in high-paying stocks.
I've walked on this street several times, but I've never noticed it before.
Inabata & Co. is a long-established chemical trading company specializing in chemicals.
In 1890, Katsutaro Inabata, who studied the world's most advanced dye technology in France at the time, founded the Inabata Dye Shop in Kyoto.
It was in 1894 (Meiji 27) that entered Tokyo. At first, he set up a store at Honishicho 3-chome, Nihonbashi-ku, but after that, through Horidome-cho and other places, the Tokyo headquarters seems to have been established at the current location (diagonally across the Nikko Kaido of Ozu Washi).
At first, I was surprised that the Tokyo headquarters of Inabata & Co. was located in this area, but considering the history of the land, it was a very natural choice.
If you go a little east on the old Oshu Nikko Highway facing Inabata & Co., it is Otemmacho. Speaking of Otemmacho, it was a town that developed as a wholesale district called "momendana" in the Edo period, and many textile wholesalers still remain today. It must have been a great location for dyestuff trading companies that have entered the Kansai region to do business in Tokyo.
At first glance, the head office building of Inabata & Co. is very chic, but in fact, there are very elaborate patterns on the outer wall.
What is depicted is the rice ears that grew steadily. The rice ears are drawn without gaps so as to cover the entire building.
When I saw this outer wall up close, I felt that the fortune seemed to be exploding, and I worshiped it unintentionally.
"I hope this design will remain forever."
With that in mind, I looked at the official site of Inabata & Co. and found a disappointing news.
Approximately 50 years have passed since its completion in 1971, and it has been decided to rebuild due to the aging of building equipment.
According to the press release, three years later, Inabata & Co.'s new Tokyo headquarters building will be visible.
At that time, I really hope that I will be able to reunite with this wonderful rice ears design.
