While the convergence of COVID-19 infection is unpredictable, the Sumida River Fireworks Festival, which has roots in the "Ryogoku River Opening" of the Edo period, was canceled last year and last year. Many people died of starvation due to the great famine in Kyoho 17 (1732) in the Edo period, and the plague spread, causing great damage and influence on the nation. In prayer for the memorial service of the victims and the eradication of the illness, a water god festival was held on the Sumida River, and at that time, a restaurant around Ryogoku Bridge was opened by fireworks. In 1978, the name was changed to the Sumida River Fireworks Festival, and it has been established as a major summer tradition in Tokyo.
