From under the roof of the Grand Roof at Tokyo Station

It's finally getting cooler, and the season has come when walking is fun. How are you going to spend?

Saturday, October 1st. Today I came to Tokyo Station by train and left the ticket gate at Yaesu Exit. The building seen from under the roof of the Grand Roof is the hot topic "Tokyo Midtown Yaesu". I reflect the blue sky on the window and feel very beautiful. The lower left is the building of Yanmar.

Now, the Yaesu Exit side of Tokyo Station is crowded with redevelopment. The other side of Sotobori-dori St., which runs in front of the station, is called Yaesu, Chuo-ku, a long and narrow town in the north and south, but some places are under construction. There is a lot of attention to what kind of city it will change from now on.

This "Tokyo Midtown Yaesu" opened in September. Since it is not a full-scale opening, it is still fun to be in the future, but since the hot underground bus terminal has been opened, there are many people who use it.

By the way, have you ever used the Yaesu Exit of Tokyo Station?

For sightseeing in Chuo-ku, there is "Yae Chika (Yaesu Underground Shopping Center)" in the basement of Yaesu Street, which is out of front of the station, so you can enjoy rice and shopping there. Also, walk Yae Chika to the first place and go up the stairs, and it's already Chuo-dori.

If you walk a little, you can also go to Tokyo's leading commercial districts such as Nihonbashi and Ginza, so the place corresponding to the "entrance of Chuo-ku" may be called "Yaesu".

Nihonbashi and Ginza are places where you can go from under the roof of the Grand Roof.

When you want to go to Nihonbashi or Ginza, you may often search for smartphones by station names such as Mitsukoshi-mae, Nihonbashi, Ginza, Yurakucho, Ginza 1-chome, but during this season when the season is good, why not take a walk around the city from Tokyo Station?

Today, I went down at Yaesu to see that book that was released today. The Yaesu Book Center is located on the south side of the Yaesu town area in front of Tokyo Station. I think everyone is a familiar book store.

This Yaesu Book Center is closed in March next year.

Oh, that's right.

When I was a child, "Memories I came to Tokyo Station" was the only "Yaesu Book Center". So I'm a little disappointed. From now on, there will be redevelopment around this area, and a new building will be built.

It is said that this bookstore will also move into the building when it is redeveloped. There are rumors that the building is directly connected to Kyobashi Edgran on the back side by the basement, but it means that Tokyo Station and Ginza Line Kyobashi Station are directly connected underground, so if it is realized, it is a very fun story for me personally.

That's right. From here in Kyobashi, we will go out to Chuo-dori and head toward Ginza-dori.

The Meijiya Kyobashi Building designed by Tatsuzo Sone from Karatsu, Saga Prefecture. It is a representative building in Kyobashi. It was the first historic building in the private sector to be integrated with the subway station, so it was built when the Ginza Line passed here. There is Kyobashi Station on the Ginza Line in this basement.

Who is Tatsuzo Sone? As you may not know, some people may not know it, but he was a person who made the scenery of Ikkorondon, which was once in Marunouchi during the Meiji era, together as a disciple of Condor. My personal favorite building in his work is the old building of the Keio University library in Mita. There are still such buildings in Tokyo, so I think it would be interesting to go around the buildings.

The intersection of Kyobashi near Ginza. The building on the right is Dai-ichi Seimei's Mutual Building 110 Tower, and the Super Dry Building on the left is Dai-ichi Seimei's Kyobashi Sohseikan. And one more thing is the Kyobashi Dai-ichi Life Building, which starts rebuilding, at this intersection, so it is not an exaggeration to say that this is the intersection of Dai-ichi Life.

In the place of the mutual building 110 tower on the right, from the Taisho era to the Showa era, the "Daiichi Mutual Hall" designed by Kingo Tatsuno, from Karatsu, Saga Prefecture, was also built. There are many stories in this First Mutual House, the most heartwarming story is when Japan lost to Pacific War.

MacArthur came and the Dai-ichi Life Center, the Dai-ichi Life Headquarters in Marunouchi, was immediately requisitioned by GHQ. I had to evacuate within a few days and was in trouble, but Asahi Breweries, who was in the first mutual hall in Kyobashi at the time, hurried out favorably, and Dai-ichi Life was able to raise Marunouchi, I escaped difficulties. Since then, the good relationship between the two companies has continued, and the fact that Dai-ichi Life is now named as a major shareholder of Asahi Breweries, is that there is no such reason.

The signboard of this super-dried is very noticeable from Ginza Street, thanks to the slightly bent Chuo-dori. When I walked along Ginza Street on a midsummer night and saw this sign, it was too hot to say, "Wow, drink ~", but on the back it is such a heartwarming historical story It is a sign that soaks in.

And I came here. It's Ginza-dori in no time.

It's a pedestrian paradise.

The newly planted street trees a few years ago have become very beautiful.
