2022 Cosmos Field in the middle of the city
In the flower garden of about 3,000 m2 of Hamarikyu Onshi Garden, about 150,000 so-called "normal cosmos" planted in the adjacent area are in full bloom, following the blooming Kibana cosmos, which has been in full bloom so far, and the sign of autumn drifts strongly. The best time to see it is usually from September to October, but this year it seems a little late. Cosmos is a general term for an annual plant belonging to the Asteraceae family, and in a narrow sense, it refers to a common cosmos "seed". The Japanese name is the autumn cherry tree, which is one of the representative flowers of autumn in Japan. It is said that it was native to Mexico and came to Japan from the late Tokugawa shogunate to the Meiji period. The leaves are paired with two feather-shaped compound leaves that are finely split. The cylindrical flower at the center is yellow, the surrounding ligulate flower is usually eight, and the flower color is mainly pink, but white, red, yellow, orange, and compound colors are produced, and the petals are also cylindrical, fringe, covering, flower shape is single bloom, choko bloom, and (half) double-flowered. The etymology of cosmos is derived from the Greek word "kosmos", meaning "order", "harmony", and "space". It is said that it was named after the beautiful appearance of the petals arranged in order. The flowers, pretty leaves, and the stems are impressive, and the flocks of winds bloom is one of the autumn traditions.
