A cruise where you can experience passing like the Panama Canal in two places at a time! (Depart from Nihonbashi Pier ♪)

The other day, in Tokyo, I had the experience of passing a lock like the Panama Canal by boat.
On a river cruise that runs through the Onagi River from the Sumida River to Arakawa River! You can experience riding a boat through two places, Ogibashi Lock Gate and Arakawa Lock Gate.

In 1590, when Ieyasu Tokugawa entered Edo, the Onagi River was excavated for the purpose of transporting salt from Shiota in Gyotoku to the city of Edo. The total length is about 5 kilometers.

After the development of boat transportation and the development of modern industries since the Edo era, the height of the water surface is currently controlled in the eastern part of the Onagi River using various facilities (locks, drainage stations, etc.) and flood control measures are taken. I am. Waterfront projects have also been carried out, and promenades have been maintained on the canal, making the waterside familiar.

When traveling by boat from the Sumida River to Arakawa through the Onagi River, we passed through two locks, Ogibashi Lock Gate and Arakawa Lock Gate.

Lock gates (lock gates) are facilities that allow ships to move up and down the water surface at places with height differences on the surface of the water.
The lock has a pair of front and rear doors, and by closing both doors, the front and rear doors look like a pool. A place like this pool is called a "rock room".
The front and rear doors of the lock are always closed by both or one of them.

The mechanism by which a ship passes through the lock is as follows.
①Open only one door and put the ship into the lock.
 (Status: one door is open)
②Close the door of the person who came in.
 (Status: Both doors are closed)
③Change the water level in the lock room.
 (Status: Both doors are closed)
④When you open the door opposite to the person who came in, the ship will leave from there.
