Construction of wooden buildings in Chuo-ku

The construction of ultra-high-rise buildings in Chuo-ku is also continuing. On the other hand, there is a new wave of construction of wooden buildings. When I visited Kyobashi, I was worried about what kind of building it would be on the site of a building that is being dismantled, so I found a document released on June 21, 2021 by Dai-ichi Life Insurance and Shimizu Corporation by online search. According to this report, Shimizu Corporation has begun considering a new construction plan for a new rental office building on the 12th floor above ground (about 56m in height) under the "wooden hybrid structure" developed by Shimizu Corporation. In the future, the company aims to contribute to the formation of a sustainable society, such as the use of wood, which is a renewable resource, by the end of 2025. The company aims to reduce CO2 emissions during construction by more than 20% compared to steel-framed office buildings of the same size, using domestic timber, including Tama timber. It is located at Kyobashi 2-chome 4-12, at the corner building northwest of the intersection of Kajibashi-dori and Chuo-dori.

The location is 1-3 Nihonbashi Honmachi. It is 17 floors above ground and about 70m high, about 15m higher than the building in Kyobashi. Further research revealed that last year, Hulic, a real estate rental company, built a building that uses fire-resistant wood under the supervision of Kuma Kengo Architectural and Urban Design Office (Minato-ku) and designed and constructed Takenaka Corporation on Ginza Street. The height is about 56m on the 12th floor above the ground.

In Marunouchi, there is also a wooden skyscraper with a height of 100m.

By the way, in Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku next door, plans are underway to rebuild and redevelop the new head office, which integrates the Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance head office and new building, into a wooden skyscraper with 20 floors above ground (100m high) and 3 floors below ground. According to the materials released on August 1, this year, dismantling work is expected to be developed in October, start construction in 2024, and complete in 2028. The number of wooden buildings is likely to increase in the city center due to measures against global warming.

The completed drawing is quoted from the presentation materials. Photos of the construction site and the building were taken from October to November, and may have changed the status quo.
