I want to be an Edo kid

See "Department Store Exhibition Dreams and Longing Architectural History"

I watched the "Department Store Exhibition" being held at Takashimaya Historical Museum TOKYO on the 4th floor of the main building of Nihonbashi Takashimaya S.C. It was an exhibition of an attempt to look at the history of department stores from the birth of Japanese department stores to the present day when many large commercial facilities appear in a chronological table like a mural, and to look at the history of department stores from architecture.

There were three models of department store architecture on display in the hall. The unexisting model of the Shirakiya Nihonbashi store has overwhelmingly many windows and is modern, suggesting the situation at that time when it was open while opening the window.

What impressed me was that the images of the elephants, which had been bred on the roof of Nihonbashi Takashimaya for four years since 1950 after the war, were transported from the ground to the rooftop. The title is "Elephant's lifting." It was a very valuable video that tells how the department store at that time had given customers dreams and hopes.

A few years ago, I visited the main building of Nihonbashi Takashimaya S.C. after a long absence. When I entered from the front entrance on the first floor and looked up at the blowout ceiling, I was impressed by the majestic atmosphere. By putting yourself in an extraordinary space, everyday fatigue will be healed, and hope for tomorrow will come up. It was a "Department Store Exhibition" that reminded me that department store construction has such a power.
