Know Noh in Chuo-ku
~ Around Hosho, Kinharu and Kanze-related spots ~
Hello. Hanes, who had the opportunity to see his teacher's fine stage and started studying Noh.
As for Noh, there is only historical knowledge as "Machi Iriono", which is published in the official text of the Chuo-ku Tourism Test, "Chuo-ku Monoshiri Encyclopedia on foot."
Prior to the performance, after taking into account the differences from Kabuki, the role of Noh performers such as Shitekata and Wakikata, and the perspective of the program, I went around spots related to Noh in Chuo-ku.
Speaking of Noh in Chuo-ku, Kinharu of Yamato Sarugaku Yoza, which has a name in street name, public bath name, and event name, may come to mind first, but I would like to introduce it from a spot other than Kinharu .
That is "Hosho Benzaiten" in Suitengu Shrine.
Suitengu is widely known for its benefit to safe delivery because there are many couples who worship on the day of the dog, but in fact, is it a spiritual experience for performing arts and fulfilling school work?
As indicated on the information board, when the 9th generation of the Kurume clan Yorinori Arima, feudal lord, competed with the 11th generation of Kaga Domain feudal lord Saihiro Maeda for the skills of Hosho-ryu Nohgaku, he made a request to Benzaiten and won a brilliant victory.
The statue is said to have been made by Unkei, and the door of the shrine hall opens on the 5th of every month and theimage of deity can be seen.
In addition, it is included in the Nihonbashi Seven Lucky Gods Tour, and the second day of May is a festival day.
There may be some Hosho-ryu who come to worship.
Next, move to Ginza and go to "Kinparu-dori" about 130m in length.
A part of the street currently known as "Ginza Gas Lantern Street" was called "Kanze-dori" in connection with the once-in-a-life mansion, but there is no remnants of Noh as a street name now It is only Kinharu Street.
As you can see in the photo below, there is a public bath "Konparuyu" along the street.
According to the official website of Kinharuyu, the name "Kinharu" is derived from the fact that there was a residence of a Noh actor in the Kinharu style in this area during the Edo period.
However, I'm worried about what kind of atmosphere it's like to have a public bath in Ginza.
If you want to know more about it, senior correspondent Ino-chan's article "[New York Times] was founded in 1863! Please see Edokko public bath "Konparuyu" [Ginza 8-chome].
As you walk south on this street, you will see the signboard of the "Kinharu Yashiki Ruins" installed along Gomon Street.
Here, when the Kinharu family received the strong protection of Hideyoshi Toyotomi and was called as the leader of Noh, around Genroku 6 (1692), Daio Kinharu was able to visit Sannoucho (currently Ginza 8-chome), Daio Kanze was Yumicho (currently Ginza 2-chome), and Daio Kyoho was Ogamachi (currently Ogabashi) at that time.
In addition, although it is one west of Kinharu-dori, "Miban-dori", "Kinharu Inari" is enshrined on the roof of the Shimbashi Kaikan, where the rehearsal hall for Shimbashi Geisha.
Although it is not usually open to the public, it will be recommended to Kinharu Street only during the Noh Kinharu Festival held on August 7 every year, and worship will be possible.
The festival in 2022 was canceled, but Kinharu Inari came to the ground as usual.
Please see the article "Kinharu Inari resting place of portable shrines Noble Pearl" by senior correspondent Ginzo.
In this way, you can see that the culture of Noh is unexpectedly alive in the city.
However, this is not the case. There is a Kanze Noh Theater in GINZA SIX, and some performances are held every week.
Because there is a Kabukiza, Chuo-ku may have a strong image of Kabuki.
However, if you walk around the city with awareness of Noh, there may be interesting discoveries! ?
Taking this opportunity, I would like to continue searching for spots related to Noh in Chuo-ku.
Last but not least, Golden Week is just around the corner.
If you are planning to visit Chuo-ku, why not check out the event information on the Chuo-ku Tourism Association official website?
You will be able to get useful information for planning your trip♪
Well, everyone, please have a good Golden Week!
