In addition, Showa disappears from Ginza. San-Ai Dream Center

It's hard. In addition, the building of Showa will disappear from Ginza. The San-Ai Dream Center will be dismantled.

From the Ricoh website

60 years have passed since the completion of the San-Ai Dream Center, and the building is aging, so we will dismantle it for the purpose of rebuilding it in consideration of safety and social responsibility. The demolition work is scheduled for approximately two years from March 2023.

As "Working" continues to change with the times, we will build a new landmark suitable for the city of Ginza by sending various messages from this place where the thoughts of founder Kiyoshi Ichimura are embraced as a place to face this change and create co-creation. Tetsuo Kobori (Tetsuo Kobori Architects & Design Office) was selected as the designer of the new building. Based on the concept of "CIRCULAR - the joy of visiting around," we aim to create an environment-friendly space where diverse people gather and sympathy for working and joy can be generated and circulated continuously. Details of the architectural plan will be announced as soon as they are decided.
The San-Ai Dream Center inherits Ricoh's founder Kiyoshi Ichimura's strong desire to "disseminate a rich future from Ginza" and has been used for various purposes. In addition, it has a distinctive architectural structure and has been popular as a landmark of Ginza for many years.

It has been 60 years since the construction, and it has become obsolete. It faces the busy Ginza 4-chome intersection, and it is our duty to ensure the safety and security of passers-by and visitors, so we decided to rebuild it.

I would like to take over Mr. Ichimura's thoughts and create a building that symbolizes Ricoh's vision for 2036, "Enjoy the work." Aiming to be completed in 2027, we aim to create a new landmark suitable for the city of Ginza, like Ricoh.

Background
In the midst of rapid changes in the business environment, including the COVID-19 infection epidemic, our customers and our own “work” are also facing major changes. Ricoh has set a long-term vision for 2036, which marks its 100th anniversary, "Enjoy in Working," and has declared that it will transform our customers' working through digital services to achieve this goal. In April 2023, Ricoh will launch its 21st Medium-Term Management Plan under the new structure. Taking this opportunity, we reviewed the future of the San-Ai Dream Center, an important place that symbolizes Ricoh, and came to this decision.

In addition, the San-Ai Dream Center is popular among many people as a representative building of modern architecture in Japan. In dismantling, digital archives will be carried out using Ricoh's technology, such as the 360-degree camera "RICOH THETA" and 3D image processing, for the shape of the building before dismantling. The archive data will be widely available on the website in the future, and we will pass on the 60-year history to future generations.

About San-Ai Dream Center

The San-Ai Dream Center was opened on January 13, 1963 by Ricoh founder Kiyoshi Ichimura as a symbol of the Ricoh Sanai Group, including the San-Ai women's clothing. Due to its excellent location and original shape ahead of the times, it has been recognized as a landmark in Ginza. Since its establishment, in addition to the tenant floor, as a facility with high affinity with art and fashion, the photo gallery "RING CUBE" in 2008 and the art project "Stare Reap" from Ricoh in 2021, "RICOH ART GALLERY" (Ricoh), which introduces and sells co-creations with artists, and "Ricoh ART GALLERY" has been familiar with many customers. In 2014, the advertising tower installed on the rooftop of the building was converted to 100% renewable energy through in-house power generation (solar and wind power), and has attracted attention as a symbol of environmental management. Utilizing the shape of a glass cylindrical building, we installed a large-scale projection system with 80 Ricoh projectors in 2017, and have been enlivening the city of Ginza with new technologies.
