"Dye of Japanese-Traditional pattern living in modern times"
IN Noevia Ginza Gallery
From January 10th (Tuesday) to March 17th (Friday), 2023, "The Dye of Japanese-Traditional Patterns Living in the Modern Age" is being held at "Noevia Ginza Gallery". Admission is free. Since ancient times, Japanese people have nurtured a rich culture by living with nature and incorporating the blessings of nature into their lives. One of them is the traditional culture that stylizes natural phenomena and plants. The patterns that have been handed down to family crests and kimonos have a meaning that reflects Japanese culture and history, and have a wish for good luck.
The photo above is a photo of the venue. There are 12 works on display at the venue. The author is Mamorihiro Jojima, the fourth generation of "Jojima Flag Dyeing Co., Ltd." in Ogi City, Saga Prefecture. "Jojima Flag Dyeing" opened in the late Meiji era, and has been working on traditional techniques to color celebrations such as the warrior banner of the Dango Festival and the Tairyo Bata wishing for big catches. The technique of "hon dyeing" is to draw a pattern with a glue, dye it with a brush, and wash off the glue when dried, and dye it one by one.
Morihiro Shiroshima, the fourth generation, revived the patterns that have been handed down since ancient times to the present age with bold designs and vivid colors. He has held solo exhibitions of warrior banners and tapestry in Milan, Italy in 2002, Istanbul, Turkey in 2011, and New York, the United States in 2018.
Please take this opportunity to appreciate original art works that convey tradition to the next generation.
