Nauman elephant came to Hamacho
A panel that I couldn't see when I went for a walk at Hamacho Park was standing near the entrance of Hamacho Park. It is a panel with an elephant like in Ueno Zoo, but it is said that the fossil "Hamacho specimen" of Nauman elephant is excavated. Panels showing the remain of Edo and Meiji eras are not uncommon in Chuo-ku, but it is surprising that tens of thousands of years ago were located in the neighborhood.
Nauman elephant came to Hamacho
During the construction of the Hamacho Subway Toei Shinjuku Line, a fossil of Nauman elephant (in 1976, both of which were three). It seems that one is almost complete skeleton. It seems that fossils of Nauman elephant have been excavated at the Bank of Japan headquarters, and there is no doubt that Chuo-ku at that time was an elephant paradise. In the era of Yoshimune Tokugawa, elephants brought as gifts by Dutch people seemed to be very rare in Edo, but if you dig a little around Hamacho, there was a great senior.
