From March 4th (Sat) to August 27th (Sun), 2023, "Mall's Imagination - Shopping Mall is Utopia" is being held at "History Museum TOKYO] on the 4th floor of the main building of Nihonbashi Takashimaya S.C. Admission is free. I think that there are many people who are associated with "shopping malls" when it comes to "malls". There are "Mitsui Outlet Park Kisarazu", "Laport Yokohama", "Tokyo Sky Tree Town", etc., but it is a complex commercial facility with a roof and a "retail store", "restaurant", "moviehouse", etc. It seems that it often calls a long and narrow building lined with stores. Based on the hypothesis that "shopping malls are utopia", this exhibition is an attempt to understand how the consumption space of malls worked on our imagination and what kind of cultural value has created, based on several themes such as "town," "inverting between inside and outside," "utopia," and "backyard."
The photo above is a photo of the venue. At the venue, works of various genres set in malls, such as movies, music, comics, novels, games, etc., will appear as if scrolls were stringed. The declining shopping street where local shops and offices have been closed and the shutters have become noticeable, such as the `` shutter shopping street '', has become an urban problem, but many customers visit the shopping mall and enjoy shopping.
