In the early Meiji era, as a symbol of Civilization and enlightenment in Japan, brick buildings were built in Ginza, and gas lights were used for street lighting.

The bricks on the floor are reproduced from the recently excavated ones with "French loading" as they were at the time.

The gas lamps used the real thing of 1874, and the lamps were faithfully restored.

The great fire of Meiji 5 (1872) was a turning point in promoting the construction of the Ginza Brick Street.

The stone monument next to the main pillar of Kyobashi is to commemorate the appearance of brick buildings, a symbol of Japan's Civilization and enlightenment in the early Meiji era.

As I wrote in the previous and 10th sessions of this series, I will post it again even if the main pillar of Kyobashi and the remaining one explanation.

The main pillar of Kyobashi

Kyobashi is a bridge with a history that is said to have been built for the first time almost at the same time as Nihonbashi, which was founded in Keicho 8 (1603).

It was removed during the reclamation of the Kyobashi River from 1948 to 1940, but two stone pillars and one stone and concrete main pillar are left to keep the remnants. I am.

Of these, the two stone pillars were replaced by a stone arch bridge in 1875.

It is shaped like a giboshi that inherits the tradition of the Edo period, and the names of "Kyobashi" and "Kiyahashi" are engraved by the poet Sasaki Shoin.

In addition, the main pillars of stone and concrete (*) were replaced by an Art Deco-style bridge during the expansion work in 1922.

It has a modern design equipped with lighting equipment, and is attached to the bridge name "Kyobashi" and "Kiyohashi" and a copper plate plate of "November 1922".

The main pillars installed in the Meiji and Taisho eras and two eras are registered as Chuo Ward Cultural Properties as valuable buildings where you can learn about changes in the design of modern bridges.

※ Stone and concrete main pillar ... This is one of the units introduced this time.

It's Chuo-dori. The brick Ginza monument introduced is behind this image.

At the left end, it is the Ginza main store at the Ginza Cozy Corner.

At the end of this road is Seiko House Ginza (Wako), Ginza Mitsukoshi, GINZA SIX, etc.

The back is Kyobashi and Nihonbashi.

You can go to Kyobashi Edgran, Takashimaya Nihonbashi store, Nihonbashi bridge, etc.

On Chuo-dori, there was a Rio Olympic medalist parade seven years ago on October 7, 2016.

The London Olympics medalist parade 11 years ago was also held here on Chuo-dori, but during the Rio Parade the distance of the parade was almost doubled.

There were about 500,000 visitors at the London Parade and about 800,000 at the Rio Parade.

At the Tokyo Olympics, which took place two years ago, if normal, a medalist parade would have been held here in Chuo-dori.

You must have recorded more than one million viewers. How was 2 million people?

Unfortunately, due to the influence of COVID-19, we couldn't even make a plan.

In addition, Rosmari was not yet a correspondent of the Tourism Association at the London Olympics medalist parade, but was planning to view it.

I couldn't take a work vacation, but I thought I could watch it during lunch break.

However, the time was not right, and I could only see the parade preparation stage.

During the Rio Parade, along with the correspondent synchronization, I was able to set up a cafe at the base of Nihonbashi during lunch break and interviewed firmly.

Here's the article at that time.

Medalists were smiling with a sunny smile.

It is one of the eight public baths in Chuo-ku.

The most important thing in our shop is "cleanliness". We are particularly focused on cleaning.

We temporarily store luggage for public bath runners, but it is popular.

It is a convenient location 2 minutes from Kyobashi Station and 5 minutes from Ginza 1-chome Station.
