"Ginza Willow" Growth Diary-Summer 2023-

Hello. I'm Hanes, an active correspondent.
Last month, I went to see "Ginza's willow" planted in my parents' house after a long absence.
This willow was raised from willow seedlings received at the "Ginza willow Festival" held in 2019, and this blog occasionally introduces its growth.

Its growth was remarkable, and it quickly became more than 4m if I thought I had been removed!

Such willows are trees in Chuo-ku and are also popular as street trees.
However, willow trees were not planted along the streets of Ginza from the beginning.
At the time of the completion of the Ginza Brick Street, pine, maple, cherry blossoms, etc. were planted, but they soon died, and instead planted willows instead, and took root.

After that, Yanagi disappeared from Ginza several times due to the expansion of the road and the large fire, but Yanagi returned to Ginza due to the enthusiasm and efforts of the local people.
As the name suggests, willows are planted along the Ginza Yanagi-dori St. on Ginza 1-chome and 2-chome, and there are monuments of "Ginza's willow-derived" and "Ginza's symbol Yanagi Namiki".
In Ginza 8-chome, there is a "Ginza Yanagi Monument" engraved with the lyrics and music of Ginza's Yanagi Shisei and Ginza's willow.

In addition, "Ginza willow" is often planted outside Chuo-ku.
Nearby are Chiyoda-ku (near Sakuradamon), Edogawa-ku (Gyofune Park), and outside Tokyo, Higashine City, Yamagata Prefecture, Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture, Azumino City, Nagano Prefecture, Nakano City, Nagano Prefecture, Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Kyoto City, etc.
You may encounter "Ginza's willow" by chance when you go out during summer vacation.
If you see a willow, why don't you look for a guide board thinking, "Maybe it a willow in Ginza?"
