Sanno-sha, Kanda-sha, and Edo-mae
The relationship between Edo and Sanno Gongen and Kanda Myojin is mentioned in the article "Akira Kanda Kamiyamao shrine parishioner" in Keicho era interview.
"Even though it can be said that there are many Edomachiguchigawa rivers, everyone goes around the moat of the castle and flows to Nihonbashi, this is the Motokawa river. But the northeast of this river is the shrine parishioner of Kanda Myojin and the southwest is the shrine parishioner of Sanno Gongen."
The line of portable shrine in Sanno Gongen leaves Takebashi after the Shogun's family's overview, passes outside Tokiwa Hashikado, and travels from Honmachi to the center of the so-called Nihonbashi River northshrine parishioner, such as Jukenten, Honishicho, Teppochou, and Daitemmacho. There is also a legend that the portable shrine of Kanda Myojin also penetrated the southern shore deeply and turned back from the middle of Kyobashi.
Gongen Sanno
As it is blog targeted for Chuo-ku, I would like to explain mainly Sanno Gongen. According to the history of Chuo-ku, Gongen Sanno wrote, `` Michio Ota recommended Hie-jinja Shrine in Oomi to Edo Castle during the civilization period, but Michio Ota did not explain why he noticed Hie-jinja Shrine in Oomi, far away. In civilization 10 (1478), Michio Ota held Tenjin Shrine in the castle with his dream, and moved Sanno Shrine at Hoshinoyama Muryoji Temple in Semba-mura, Iruma-gun, Musashi-kuni to the castle. In August of Tensho 18 (1590), Ieyasu entered the castle and went around the castle to discover that there were these two shrines.
This Tenjin Shrine was the beginning of Hirakawa Shrine, and Sanno Shrine came to be called Hie-jinja Shrine in the Meiji era. Follow the article of "Tenka Matsuri"
shrine hall was moved to Miyakezaka outside Hanzomon, outside Hanzomon, along with the expansion of Edo Castle during the Keicho era, but shrine hall was burned down by the great fire of the Meiryaku era and moved to its current location above the reservoir. God, who was only a guardian angel in Edo Castle (the private guardian angel of Tokugawa) began to be revered by all residents of Edo. Geographically, the water in the reservoir is located at the southern border of the Shimbashi River in the south of Edo, that is, the southern boundary of "Edo", so it may be considered to be intended for "all Edo residents". In this way, he became a guardian angel of the town of Edo.
Sanno Gongen is the residence god of Edo Castle, and Kanda Myojin is the god of the land of Edo. Since Kanda Myojin is the indigenous god that had been occupied before humans entered, it can be understood as a factor that Kanda Myojin was connected to Taira no Masakado as a god.
If you say "Edomae", it's a sushi!
When the word Edo-mae is used as "Edo-mae cuisine", it is understood by the people as "Edo-style". Originally, Edo-mae cuisine means "a dish made from fish caught in the Edo-mae sea". By the way, what range does Edomae mean? According to the Chuo-ku History's "Answer of Food Wholesalers"
"The place where you can recite Edomae is located in the west, Musashi / Shinagawa, Suzaki's best stick stake, and at the entrance to Edomaeumi from the Haneda Sea. On the right, the first stick and the pine stake are overlooked, and the inside is chanted from the sea in front of Edo and ancient times. "
In other words, the waters in the northern part of Edo Bay are the seas of Haneda from Kawaguchi on the Rokugo River (Tama River) to the north, Omori and Shinagawa on the west side, and the sea of Shimousa on the north shore. It seems that the sea area around Kawaguchi and Tsukuda Island of the Sumida River, which is sandwiched between both, is the sea in front of Edomae.
The history of the ward also presents another theory. It is a theory that the area around Tokyo Bay inside from the line drawn between Hashirimizu in Sagami and Futtsusu in Kazusa is regarded as a fishing ground below the fish shore.
There are various theories in the definition of Edo, so there are various theories before Edo. Speaking of the "Edomae Sea" in a narrow sense, it is the sea area where the former Nihonbashi Ward and the former Kyobashi Ward are in contact. Speaking of rivers, it's from the Kanda River to Kawaguchi in Shin-Hashikawa. In the broadest sense, the "Edomae Sea" refers to the area of action for ships carrying fish directly to the fish shore in Nihonbashi.
