The Jizo of Minatokko Diary Minato Reitaisai festival

Minatokko Diary

On June 3, 2023, the annual festival of Shiomi guardian of children and travelers, a Jizo in Minato, was held.

It had been raining lightly since the morning, but before noon there was gradually clouds, and the sun began to look into it. It was such a cool wind blowing.

Caretakers and several neighbors gathered and surrounded the hall.

There is also a scene where you can carry a chair and enjoy each other.

It seems that a nearby house lent me a chair.

It's wonderful.

A local community.

Normally, the closed door opened and the face of Jizo could be seen. Before that, the monk sits down and sings the sutras.

Minato-ko was quietly staring at it.

"Shiomi Jizo-son" quietly has a hall behind the alley of Minato 3-chome.

Nowadays, seawalls have been improved, and the Sumida River terrace is coloring the waterside, but in the past, they were enshrined on the waterside to see the Sumida River.

In the Edo period, the Eitai Bridge collapse accident in 1807 caused many casualties. After that, there were earthquakes, large fires, and the Great Kanto Earthquake. Perhaps due to the terrain, all Buddhas are said to have flowed on the river and flowed to this land.

The people of Minato's town mourned people who did not know their names. And he calmed his soul.

The remnants are still handed down by the people of Minato, "Shiomi guardian of children and travelers Reitaisai festival" in June and "Unrelated Buddha memorial service" held in the Bon Festival in July.

A bridge was once built around Shiomi guardian of children and travelers, and the alley leading from the front to Gunpow Street was exactly the Gunpow River.

Is it a remnant that the road width is wide? It's just the border between Minato 2-chome and Sanchome.

From the place where I came out to the current gunpowder street, I was connected to Akashicho and to Akashibori.

Photographs of the mansion of Henry Falls, the predecessor of Meiji Gakuin, and the Tokyo Matching Shrine, which was located in the Tsukiji foreign settlement, show the Gun Sugawa River.

With the development of industry, many ships carrying luggage were berthed around here in Minato town.

The sailor lived with his family on the boat, so there were many cafeterias, boat tools shops, and shops dealing with daily necessities in Minato. And in the morning, the ship returned to the original town.

Such a gunshot river was also reclaimed in 1929 as part of the reconstruction of the earthquake, and is now a gunshot street.

Meiji period, guardian of children and travelers, who appeared from the bottom of the river, is now underpinned by wire nets, and is enshrined in the backwards to keep his appearance. The Jizo, which we can see, was built in 1930 by the people of Minato, and has round eyes in the form of gassho.

The name of the town at that time was Funamatsumachi.

Funamatsucho, it may have been a town waiting for a ship, or a town where the ship waits, and a town where the boat waits, made the town fashionable like an Edo kid.

It is a stylish town name that clearly expresses the characteristics of a waterside town.

And this Jizo is also the god of teeth.

It is said that taking home the salt of the temple and brushing teeth will soon cure toothache, and it has been deeply worshiped. Even now, salt is offered to Domae.

Shiomi Jizo-son is protected by the local community.

Freshly overflowing potted plants bloom seasonal flowers.

If you look closely, a large light blue bucket is replaced with potted plants.

It's like a brand name written in ink.

Maybe it's a little bit of Tsukiji Market…!

It is a unique sight of Minato.

Surrounded by a lot of flowers, Jizo looks happy.

Hydrangea has become a beautiful season.
