August 15, 2023 (Reiwa 5) is the 78th anniversary of the end of the war. Along with that, we introduce words wishing for peace, such as writers who survived the war, and related materials are on display. In addition, some bridges and buildings in the Nihonbashi area that continue to live in history are also introduced.

The photo above introduces four places, Nihonbashi, Kiyosubashi, Edoya store and house, and Yoshiume Yoshicho-tei, which survived the war, as part of the "Buildings that continue to live in history."

It is wonderful that Japan was able to protect peace without being involved in the war for 78 years after the war. However, many people may be hurt by the misery of the current war of aggression in Ukraine.

"Let's look at the preciousness of peace. If the light of peace disappears, all will be lost in modest happiness or prosperity. Let us pass on this brilliance in our hands to tomorrow's generation." (Excerpt from Heiwa, Chuo-ku City Declaration)

I hope it will help you look back on the misery of war in the past and think about the value of peace.

We received the cooperation of Nihonbashi Library in posting photos and other materials. Thank you very much.
