Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine Reisai Festival is held every three years. The town of Tsukuda Island, which has inherited the traditional festival that has continued since the Edo period to date, has been preparing for it over a long period of time.

"Tsukudajima Sumiyoshi Festival" depicted in the masterpiece "Hundred Views of Edo" by the famous ukiyo-e artist "Hiroshige Utagawa" of the Edo period.
If you look at this ukiyo-e, you can see the banner of the festival of Sumiyoshi Daimyojin, and the big portable shrine is carried into the sea.
The flags of these festivals and those equivalent to the underwater imperial procession of portable shrine have been handed down to date.

As of July 2023, preparations for placing fine banners in six places on Tsukuda Island are steadily progressing.
Wooden banners are usually buried and stored under the water (in the mud) of Funairi moat near Tsukuda Kobashi.
It seems that this can prevent trees from being damaged.
Every time the annual festival is held every three years, this banner is dug out and built, and a fine banner is raised just like an ukiyo-e of the Edo period.
The work is quite hard work.
Excavating a large flag pillar of about 20 meters and a wooden tree that supports it → Assembly and installation → Raise a flag → It will be dismantled after the festival is over → It's a rough flow to backfill it.
6 sets of this. There are banners in six places.
I feel that it is a big project that many people can get involved and work together to achieve.
Imagine the length of the large banner (about 20 meters), I'm looking forward to seeing that a large and fine banner will be raised.

Ukiyo-e from the Edo period shows how the people carrying the portable shrine enter the sea.
The festival's portable shrine is still carried by boat to the sea.
From around the Tsukuda Park Terrace, the Miya portable shrine of Sumiyoshi-jinja Shirine is boarded on a boat, "Ship imperial procession", and a marine festival is held off Harumi.
It's a rare opportunity, so why not go to see it at the time of the ship imperial procession?
